Hi

I'm busy with an online trainingg tutorial from Apple's online Dev Centre, which is going ok. I like to have hard copy books to refer to for stuff instead of searching and trawling the net. I am a website developer, and App dev is a new area for me, so learning the ropes relating to that.

For app development for mobile devices with native iOS + Android, what are the books you guys can recommend as a must have for someone like me diving into app development?

So far my list is:

iOS - iOS Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (Not readily available locally)
Android - Professional Android 4 Application Development

I prefer HTML5 + jQuery Mobile + Phonegap. One codebase for all my apps.

I'm confused you went from my response to this:

To this?
Codename One compiles native apps.

I guess you now want me to comment on Codename One.

Ok...in that case:
  • can you name 1 top selling app developed in Codename One.
  • How much of the native iOS SDK is accessible via Codename One? My guess is not much; Codename One much like Adobe developed their own SDK which runs on top on a VM oriented layered app. Would you like to guess how successful that has been for Adobe?
  • Do you really believe Codename One apps are as fast as native objc apps

Nope. c10n3d_0r6 and I are not relations.

Your retort was in reference to a comment I made about webapps?

Why quote me if you were offering an alternative?

Btw IMO the only real alternative to objc ATM is Xamarin.

I was offering a "meaningful" alternative to your dismissive and unhelpful comment. So no, not replying to you, merely your comment.

Nothing dismissive about truthfulness. Next time, I suggest you focus your response to the OP, and don't quote someone if you're not expecting a reply.

Yet you fail to offer anything of use to the OP. See the irony?

However, it was in reference to your quote, so I quoted it. Savvy?

Miss my 1st post in this thread?

Now, now that doesn't seem to be the post I quoted, nor the unhelpful post that I was referring to. Of course, you've made it abundantly clear that you know that.

Next time pay attention to the name of the person posting and we won't have to go through this, m'kay?

I'm not to sure of books, but search Stanford university for there video iOS course (check on iTunesU) also has some documentation.

Hahaha... abundantly clear... mmmhhh... No!

Webapps and Codename One, have nothing in common. Check again my comment was related to webapps.

Maybe next time it's best for you to avoid quoting out of context.

+1 -- good kick-starter for existing developers that are new to iOS

Codename one generates its own UI using OpenGL. It really is quite fast. The platform just isn't very mature.
