iOS Music App stuck on splash screen.

Yesterday I began to have a problem with the music app on my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, both running iOS 9.1.

When I open the app, it shows the Apple music splash screen where everybody is waving their hands in the air like they just don't care. It just sticks on that screen, and never opens the app.

I have tried force closing the app, restarting the iPhone and iPad, and turning off Settings / Music / "Show Apple Music".

None of this has made any difference.

I don't want to use the Apple music service or anything, I just want to listen to my own music that is on my iPhone and iPad.

Seems like this is an isolated problem, but I'll post my findings in case anyone else get it.

I phoned Apple support on 0800 444 426, and got a very helpful lady who suggested resetting all settings via Settings / General / Reset / Reset all settings.

This fixed the problem on my iPad, but not on my iPhone. She suggested doing a full backup / wipe / re-install of iOS via iTunes. I will try this if I have time over the weekend.
 
Incedentally, I notice that when I reset all settings on my iPhone, my Macbook gets kicked of my wifi network, and forgets the password. Anyone know if this is normal? (I did it twice and it happened both times, with my iPhone, but not with my iPad).

Yes this is normal. Apple devices sync their wifi passwords. So if you 'forget this network' on your iPad, your mac and iPhone will ditch the network too.

I had the same issue on my iPhone 4S just after upgrading to iOS 9.1. A combination of killing the app and restarting the phone fixed it.

It seems like it's trying to download the splash screen to sign you up for Apple Music and if that fails it just hangs on that screen.

The only thing I can think of is backing up your phone and doing a restore via iTunes.
 
Only saw this thred now, I fixed this problem last week on my uncles 5s also running iOS9.1, I found the answer someware on a Apple forum.
1. In settings, Music, switch off Apple Music.
2. In Settings, iTunes and App store, sign out of your iTunes account.
3. Turn off your phone and back on again, try open the music app it should work.
4. Go back to Settings, iTunes and App store and sign back in to your iTunes account.
5. If you go back to music it should still work, if not just repeat, I had to do it a second time for it to stick.
 
Had this issue as well and a restart fixed it. Luckily no reset.
 
I have the same problem since 9.1. Just updated to 9.2 and still the same problem. Driving me up the ****ing wall. Have tried the suggestions here and elsewhere and nothing works. The only way I get my music app working is to kill it, enter airplane mode and then run it. Otherwise with any type of connection it just freezes at the splash screen. Not the hands in the air picture though but the sad lady on a black/blue background.

Update: I just tried the whole process a few times over and eventually it stuck! Stayed signed in to iTunes/AppStore and "showed" Apple Music in Music settings, switched off and on, then signed out and "hid" Apple Music in Music settings, off and on and now it seems to stick. Finally.
 
Had the same problem, putting the phone in flight mode before loading the app and then disabling once open worked for me. Thanks shinymatt!
 
so this is what u have to do and it really helped me
- close the music app
- turn airplane mode ON
- go open the music app ( will work perfectly )
- then turn airplane mode OFF
