How secure or locked down is ios regards to information security?

ive been told that by visiting sites with an ipad, that the site can maliciously run code, in order to steal all your passwords on the ipad, be it appleid, email etc..

It's very secure. There was a site once that could exploit idevices (jailbreakme), but that was never used in a malicious context. Also that hole has been plugged.

+1 There's no reason to be concerned. iOS has been in use since 2007 without any notable security incident.

I have the FNB app on iPad, never used it for fear of a compromise, especially because it's jail-broken. Can Someone please allay my fears, the BB FNB app is laggy.

Jailbrake alone will not cause security issues. It depends on what you do after that that might cause for concern, like loading software from dark corners of the net.

In theory it should be safe as applications can not interact with each other, but you never know. Still think its safer to do your banking on a iPad than a normal Windows PC. Not because of the design but from a pure target perspective. If I was going to do something fishy to get people's details I would much rather code something for and OS that covers 80%+ users than something that might target 1%.

... Not because of the design but from a pure target perspective...

The design also helps i.e. sandboxing specifically restricts apps from interference with other apps... any app found to implement measures to circumvent sandboxing or non approve APIs is removed from the App store; hence design does help...

Once again, no.

The biggest security hole, is if you jailbreak, then install OpenSSH, and don't change your root password.

But Safari is very safe, just stay on the latest update of iOS.
