Does anyone know when IOS 4 is going to be released for the Iphone 3G and 3GS
 
It's already out, if you wanna download it. You just need to get iTunes 9.2 beta as well.
 
No, you don't. If you can get hold of the ipsw you're good to go!
 
Here is a hint for anyone planning on doing this : before you start, make sure you disable the SIM PIN on your smart card. Reboot your phone and make sure that it boots straight to the homescreen, and that no PIN is requested. (SETTINGS -> PHONE -> SIM PIN -> OFF). It will make your upgrade a whole lot easier....

what happens if you dont do this .... how will it complicate things
 
it wont complicate things - just one or 2 extra steps - you need to input your sim pin, disconnect and connect again.

ahh ok thanks dude ... im in the process of doing the upgrade now . I take it my apps will be missing once the update is complete .
