How big of an upgrade (MB) do you guys anticipate iOS 5 to be? The normal 600MB + ??

I suppose iOS 5 will be the big update then and thereafter the smaller "delta" updates will be effective. Thanks

Noob Question, just so I can budget.

Will there be a iTunes update as well, or can I update now and dont have to do this again on Wednesday?

Haven't opened iTunes in a while so I guess mine is out of date, but would like to grab iOS 5 as soon as it comes out.

Chances are you need to update your iTunes to the latest for the iOS 5 to work. Roughly one will be looking at around 72+MB for iTunes and around 600 - 700 MB for the iOS5.

Sweeet! Cant wait, gonna buy myself 1GB prepaid because this is gonna crawl on mweb account!

BTW: Ive lost the link that i usually get my firmware from! Does anyone have a fast external source where we can get it? Ie non-iTunes! Also does anyone know the exact time the update comes out in our time?

I normally get my firmware links from http://felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ they post the links that iTunes basically uses in the background, they are all on Akamai servers so should be quick enough as will be on a local server (i'd think). I don't think anyone knows what time it will be out yet, I'd expect it morning/midday Cupertino time so say 7pm or later ZA time

When I was still an iPhone user, used to download three days after everyone. In that way I would avoid downloads which crash during halfway through especially using iTunes. And recently used to download from iphoneheat.com or just Google the latest IPSW file. Pity I am now awaiting Ice Cream Sandwich and no longer an iPhone user.

I have never understood why anyone would want to download a firmware file from within iTunes: Here is the process i use:

felixbruns to get the URL of the file you want
paste link into either Free Download Manager or Flashget (so it multithtreads)
Shift-Restore and restore backup

How long will it take to download with the Seacom problems? My Int speed is already almost dead, hope they (the ISPs) have backup plans in place by the 12th!!

Speed should not be a problem downloading as it will come from the Akamai servers (which I think are based at IS) so the downloads should be at local speeds. Not long to wait ....

I must admit, I am a Android user myself but I dont see the relevance of mentioning ICS in here esp seeing that most Android phones will never see the update... ever, unlike iOS.

I would advise that you give it 24 hours after the release of the update before you do the update yourself. Small immediate problems usually pop up during that period and then apple releases a fix for it within 24 hours.

Will IOS5 Slow Down 3GS Performance?

I am a 3GS owner and quite literally 2 months away from an upgrade where i hope to get the 4S. However I fear that IOS5 will slow down the 3GS' performance pretty much like the 3G's performance was affected by IOS4.

Any thoughts?

It's going to be one hell of a feeding frenzy tomorrow. Record downloads expected. The data service providers are smiling. I, like many, have an iPad and iPhone to update, plus iTunes.
