I am not yet a MyWireless user and would like to ask some stupid questions if you don’t mind too much.

1. I have read that there have been IP changes that took place lately. Why?

2. Do you have a static or a dynamic IP.
3. Is 2.55 Km to the tower close enough?
4. Can one run a Web server / Mail Server on a MyWireless connection?

Thanks

Two Cents? What? I have to pay????

1. Probably to find a solution to the speed problems we've been having, my guess would be that the speed problem existed between the DNS servers of the 66 IP range and IS's servers who we peer through for international/local bandwidth.

2. Dynamic, but doesn't change every 24 hours like Telkom's does, it changes whenever you disconnect, could be 1 day or a month, depends how long you can keep your system up and running.

3. Yes, normally 5.65km would be on the brim of the range, anything outside that can't connect unless connecting to a long range tower that goes up to 30km

4. Yes. I suggest if you have a domain name, get your DNS admin to route the traffic to your no-ip.com address, and update it with the software. However, I won't recommend Sentech for this because the upstream is only 15kb/s IF you are lucky, thus, if your users dont mind slow access to your site. Be my guest. I do it :)

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

I have been running a webserver and a mail server thru dyndns and it works quite well. Even if the server goes down.... for some reason... then the email eventually arrives, because its never down for long.

I am operating on 128 kbs and use Dynsite for the dynamic server, Abyss as the web server and mail enable for the mail server. Tried running a ftp, but could not get my firewall to operate propoery. Kept on rejecting people including me.[:D]

With a statement like that, perhaps you should refrain from conjecture around the speed issue.
