IP Cameras

Yes, that is only an issue when you want to view the live feed of the camera from the browser. Often you can just view the live feed with software that comes bundled with the camera, or with media players like VLC.

Thanks, not really an issue for me then... looks like I'll have to go for the Planet cams then, can't find anything better at the same price.

Thanks for that link johnjm.

Please just note that the amount of bandwidth required to stream MJPEG is considerably more than MPEG, because MPEG just sends the difference between the previous and current frame, where as MJPEG sends the whole frame every time. When there is lots of movement, they will both use roughly the same bandwidth though, but MPEG uses much less on still frames.

Also, that camera is rated for 0.3MP, which is rather low depending on your needs.

I bought 4 cameras from these guys last week www.wirelesscamera.co.za last week (I went to their premises in PTA). Although not branded, they are Foscam as I've updated all the firmwares with the latest off the foscam.com site. I had d-link dcs-920 cameras in my previous house and these seem better. My 2c.

Im able to make out faces night and day. I dont record 24 hours a day though, I only set it up to take pictures every second for 6 seconds when it detects movement. Dont see why it wouldnt suffice for a household IP camera. At 25% of the original price im not complaining either. R400 versus R1690 hmmmm :)
