Hi,

I've just bought a Netgear WG602 access point for my brother, with the sole purpose of connecting his PS3 (which we can't get right, but I'll make a new post latear ...). Anyway, I wanted to first check EVERYTHING was alright on the PC side so we know what to focus on.

Pretty please can someone just verify i've done something right, as neither of us are into PCs! The manual instructions - word for word - are written in bold and the text after is what I've done.

a) Prepare a PC with an ethernet adapter. If this PC is already part of your network, record it's TCP/IP configuration settings. Configure the PC with a static IP address of 192.168.0.210 and 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask I connected the AP to the PC, double clicked on the connection icon in the taskbar > properties > TCP/IP settings > properties > selected 'use the following IP address' and keyed in the above number. I exited the screen as it never mentioned anything about DNS, however I noticed that DNS is NOT automatic anymore and no numbers are entered in that field. Both monitors DO blink ...

b) Configure the WG602 for LAN access. Connect to the WG602 by opening the browser and entering http://192.168.0.227 in the address field. I do this and CAN enter the setup screen. I haven't touched a thing here.

Now, is the 1st setup thing i did the static PC IP address and the 2nd access point IP address? Does everything look alright on the PC side?

Sorry, an addition to this ...

If I double click the connection and the 'support' tab, it says manually configured and does say the IP is 192.168.0.210 and subnet 255.255.255.0.

The other thing I wanted to ask is there are two place i can enter this IP address they want. The first being the place specified above (taskbar > properties > TCP/IP settings > properties > selected 'use the following IP address' and key in the IP) or (taskbar > properties > TCP/IP settings > properties > obtain automaticall BUT select the 'alternate configuration' and 'automatic private IP address' ... I can enter there too :/

What's the difference and which is right place?

you need to set your gateway on the pc to 192.168.0.227.

Suggest that you set dhcp option on the router to on (you'll have to refer to the documentation), and then don't set up any static entries.

Both? So everything is my gateway, which in turn is my AP IP?

I see I can't set both (primary and secondary) the same

Set Default gateway, primary dns and secondary dns to 192.168.0.227

Your machine will query DNS on your router which in turn will fetch the result from the DHCP assingned address from yuor ISP when your ADSL connected.
