Hi folks. I wonder if anyone can help me out a little here.

I'm thinking about buying an iPad 2 for my wife's birthday because apart from the usual couch surfing and angry birds on a big screen, I have been led to believe it is a pretty decent tool for photo editing.

I've had a nose about on the app store to try and find out a little, but not knowing what is what in the photography world, I am unsure of what would constitute a decent app?

She uses Photoshop and especially Lightroom on her desktop, so my question is, is the iPad 2 a good tool/toy for editing photo's and what apps are available which would be good for her to use?

If it's any relevance, her camera is a Canon 7Dii.

Cheers.

Excellent, thanks for the replies already. Seems like she'll love it if that other thread is anything to go by. I'll do a bit of reading up on it because I'm the mug who needs to figure these kind of things out then explain it to her.

Another small question though, is it possible to send the pictures to the iPad from the camera directly? The other thread mentions a few things including a camera connection kit, is this a third party thing? I've got an ipod touch with itunes on my laptop and imagined she wold need to load onto a computer first and transfer this kind of way?

As you can probably tell, I'm not familiar with the iPad at all. But loading pictures directly would definitely be a huge plus.

Again, thanks for the help.

EDIT

Did a bit of nosing about again and I see the attachment for transferring directly. igear have them for R349 so not too pricey either.

Thanks for the pointers, I'm well on my way now :)

I use a eye-fi card to transmit photos, as I take them, to the iPad. For the 7D you'll also need the right SD to CF adapter since the eye-fi only comes in SD. The camera connection kit works well, on the 7D you'd use the USB adapter to offload the images - some CF readers apparently work but mine isn't one of them. :o

Great stuff Bwana. Reading your other thread I'm pretty sold on the usefulness of the ipad and I'm sure my wife will be over the moon. She's off to Europe next month and only this morning she was talking about needing some storage solution for her pics while on the go. I was going to get her the 64gb 3G so that will surely help with this too.

Do you happen to know what's the deal with the micro sims if I buy the ipad without a contract? I've never looked at them, can you just pick them up the same as a normal sim pack for a few rands? (lol, I'll bet you it's more than a few though).

Sorry for all the questions, I'm in central Africa at the moment using a 3G modem on EDGE so surfing is a problem most times.

Sorry, that I can't really help you with too much but my understanding is that they're available from all the network operators for a small fee.

If she's just taking her iPad I'd suggest she bring along a few extra CF cards so she needn't erase any until she returns home. The 7D raw files are substantial and even a 64GB iPad will quickly full up. Also this way she can just import, edit, and share the photos she wants while she's away from home on the iPad and then move everything over to the PC when she gets back.
