Good afternoon all- do you perhaps know where I can get a new glass "face" for my iPad 3. It broke

eBay for under $30.
search for ipad 3 digitiser. Make sure it's the right one- 1, 2 and 3 are all different.
After duties it will be in your hands for about R320 or so.
See youtube for a tut on how to replace.

I wouldn't suggest this if you are not familiar working with electronics and if you have a short temper.

I have fixed an iPod (not touch), a 3gs and a 4s on my own and I don't have any electronics experience.

I watch more than one tutorial. All the way through. Then I decide which one to follow. I use a very large piece of paper (I have a roll of paper 1.2m wide) as a table cloth and I circle and mark each screw and part as I disassemble the device.

Its not hard in general. Tho I do agree on the temper part. Do your homework, get the right tools, be careful, take it slow and you'll be fine.

Thank you. I had a look on amazon.com. But the delivery takes way too long. I am using the ipad for studies but it is frustrating with a broken screen. Any place in SA that sells the screen- apparently Apple in SA don't support this service..

Apple are not in SA officially. iStore which is run by Core group - will be your best bet to get it repaired. If you want to repair it yourself, you're going to have to import the part yourself.

Apple are in SA officially, via their authorised distributor, Core Group (who also operate the iStore chain). And I am quite sure they would be happy to sell a new screen/glass or repair it for OP. The price might be scary though.

Officially by means of their own stores and not via a 3rd party company. Sorry, should have been clearer.

iFix do a really good job compared to some other repair centers work!!

Hi,
I've cracked my iPad 4 glass screen. Core Distribution wants me to courier the unit to their Technical Centre in Johannesburg (I am based in East London) and they will provide me with a quote for a replacement unit. They are not willing to provide me with a worst case scenario estimate. Has anyone else had their unit replaced by Core? Could you give me an idea of the cost involved?

I've had my iPad for less than a month. Sending it in to a repair centre (like iFix) to have the glass replaced means my warranty will be totally void. I am worried about taking that chance, hence considering getting a replacement unit.

I realise it won't be cheap, but it would still be nice if Core was able to give an estimate.

But sending the unit all the way to Johannesburg, then receiving a quote and realising it is possibly too expensive, then couriering it back to East London and then back to Johannesburg to a Repair Service provider and then back to East London again just sounds daft!

Any suggestions?

Can't they just tell you how much it would cost to replace the glass and digitizer? From what you said that is most likely the worst case scenario.
.

my ipad 4 glass broke. Smartlab did the repair and the quote was R2500, Irepair quoted me R2000. My ipad was insured only had to pay R400 for the excess was.
