I purchased the iPad Camera Connectivity Kit over the weekend. This kit consists of two adapaters: (1) USB, and (2) SD Card reader. These adapters only allows the transfer of photos from a camera to the iPad.

I however discovered this morning that my PC's keyboard works through the USB adapter. When I plug it in it gives an error message that states that the device is not supported but the keyboard actually works. Really great solution.

I still struggle to find a way for SD card reader to read any jpeg file and not just those captured as photos by a camera. If anyone knows how to get this working with any jpeg image from any source please let me know.

@Elimentals : Those eye-fi cards are still rather expensive aren't they?

You need to give the file an 8 character name and use the same file structure. You can also load videos and other file formats this way.

You can load photos into the Photo app via WIFI with an app like Shuttersnitch or even Goodreader.

Of course you can still sync via iTunes.

I know its Off topic but:

Why dont you just install http://www.eye.fi/ into the camera?
Then you use normal WiFi on tablet for the pictures?
They're great but not easy to come by in SA. I had mine sent over from Amazon.

To my knowledge Eye-Fi is very expensive. Last I saw one it was R600 for a 2GB SD card. With the connectivity kit I get two adapters and I can put any SD card from any camera in. More flexible.

The connectivity kit cost me R279 at iStore in Canal Walk. Def cheaper, and now I can use a keyboard on my iPad.

It's still R350 ($ x R7) at its cheapest and then it is still one SD card. I prefer having an adapter that can read as many SD cards as I have. It's not as direct and convenient but it works.

Using a normal PC keyboard is a huge plus. Writing/typing has just become a heck of a lot easier without buying an expensive (and to be charged!) Bluetooth keyboard.

I can see how that would make me go that route as well, its 2 uses for the price of one ;)

Now that I have an Android that can read SD's and a camera that has built in wifi I guess it was money wasted doesn't matter how I look at my Eye-fi. Well at least it helped for a year when I only had the iPad.

Elimentals, with technology first adopters will always feel the price pain. Things get cheaper. I'm a frequent victim. I love trying things out when it comes out but there are so many pitfalls ... but hey, we accept it as part of the experience ... LOL!

There is a bit of a tax to be paid in terms of battery life using a full sized usb keyboard. I almost bought the Apple bluetooth keyboard, which has fantastic battery life, but then it hit me - why bother, it's bordering on laptop size and I have one of those anyway so why not use that? :)

Wrt the eye-fi - only two of my cameras have SD slots, and for those the eye-fi rocks, but the camera connection kit gives me access to the rest of my cameras that use CF cards. I still need to find a CF reader that the connection kit doesn't balk at but until then I'm happy to use the USB cable.

Edit. I recently posted this pic in another thread. It doesn't exactly scream portability does it :)

I now want to find the smallest keyboard I can find that works. I can imagine the power consumption rise, but it's fortunately only needed when I want to enter data or type documents. To date I've been very reluctant to type too much on the iPad (hate typing on glass, therefore my Bold 9000 :) ), but I can now do so much more ito writing.
