Anything bad about doing this?

Tried it for a few minutes and it seems much faster

The Samsung says 5v 1.0A and the Apple is 5.1v and 2.1A

Very similar - so shouldn't short battery life?

Yea ... hehe .... I guess it's not bad if it does

It shouldn't harm the battery. The USB port on the S3 will only draw current at a certain rate. The amperage of the charger won't change that, it just indicates the maximum current it can provide.

Correct.

With a custom kernel you can bump the s3 charging current to 1300mA

The actual AC charger that goes in the wall ... and it works!

So perhaps my Samsung one is bust :/

Nope, just supplies current at a lower rate than the iPad charger would. Which is natural, given the massive disparity in battery sizes between the two.

I use my ipad charger on every device...

Its only bad if you try charging a 1A phone with a 500ma charger....either the touchscreen dont work well or the charger goes bust
