Hi I would like to buy an ipad2 2nd hand from someone who got it through the Fnb deal.

Does anyone know how the guarantee works ? I phoned Fnb and they said the contract is between Fnb and the original buyer therefore he would need to check it in himself .

Does anyone know if apple themselves would repair it if anything was wrong?

There is no "Apple themselves" in this country. The SA importers are called Core. Opinions of Core on this forum start from negative and go downhill from there.

Hi yes I know core are merely approved reselling agents, but does anyone know whether they will honor any warranty? I know it's usually 12months?

Can someone confirm with me urgently as its the only thing holding up my purchase

If I recall correctly it was mentioned in a discussion on this forum not too long ago that FNB aren't reliant on Core for their iProducts. So Core will likely repair it, but they won't do so under warranty. I'd also hazard that FNB are well within their rights in saying that the agreement is between themselves and their client, up until such time as the item is paid off.

I'd tread carefully.

I believe the arrangement is that you take it to any iStore (i.e. core) and they will honour the warranty.

... but another article said they were.

I'm not sure

For guarantee purposes, just drop it off at your nearest istore - they will check the serial and book it in for you no hassles.

I've had a faulty one - that I had received and the replacement one - the 3g just stopped working after 3 days - and sold off the 3rd one as soon as it has been replaced.

Still using my 1st gen ipad - imported one - no hassles with it.

from the fnb site - https://www.fnb.co.za/promotions/smartphone-tablet-in-your-hands.html

Manufacturer's repair centres for Smartphones/Tablets under Warranty.

Apple iPad

If your Apple iPad is faulty (this does not include physical damage) you can send an e-mail to [email protected] with all your information (name, cellphone number, e-mail address, collection address and serial number of the device) plus a description of the fault.

You also have the option of returning the device to an iStore.

Just an update.

I bought the iPad and genius that I am managed to get the sim stuck inside.

Took it to the istore and they booked it in and a few days later i collected it and they had sorted it out for me. No charge and no hassles!
