Normally I can do this - but I dunno what I'm doing :/

So far :

Click Mail and select 'other' to setup ...

Name : Dolby
Address : [email protected]
Password : *****
Description : Vodamail

Click 'Next' and select 'POP'

Incoming Hostname : pop3.vodamail.co.za
Username : 2776*******
Password (already filled out - guessing from the first page)

Outgoing Hostname : smtp.vodamail.co.za
Username : 2776******* ((says optional - tried filling it in))
Password : ***** (says optional - tried filling it in)

When I go ahead, it says 'Cannot connect using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without?' ... and I say 'yes'

It thens seems to hang on 'Verifying' ....

Does that, tries to connect using SSL and then will come back with a connect without SSL message. Takes a while but will work... Set up my brother-in-law's iPad yesterday... Telkom account was quick but Vodacom was really slow.

Thanks ...

Do the Vodacom settings look correct?
Format for username is 27 with no +?
What about the optional username/password in outgoing mail?

Pretty much the way I have it except I didn't add in username and password for the SMTP settings.

Hmm, with this setup isn't the mail is going to be downloaded to the device and deleted off the server? I'd rather see if you can go IMAP or setup a gmail account to pull your vodamail from. At least then the mail is kept safe on the server.

Worked :)

Thanks!

Though it hung at verifying, but you're right - takes ages

EDIT : Setup as IMAP

Didn't think Vodacom had IMAP settings...

If you have to use POP there is a setting to leave messages on the server. But IMAP is the way to go if they allow it.

What is the difference between the two?
IMAP is like a window into the server - so less bandwidth?

The PITA with doing that is if you restore your device/re-install your OS you will need to download all the mail again.
