Dear MTN,

How the F must one register one's iPad Mini using a nano sim with no telephony on your MyMTN system if you insist on sending me an OTP that I cannot get on a device without telephony/sms?! When I cal your Help Desk they keep on telling me to place the sim in a phone to get the OTP sms and the more I tell them I do not have a phone that use nano sims the more they tell me to put my sim in a phone that use a micro sim. When I ask to be put through to the technical dept I get cut off.

WTF?! I have no way of tracking my data usage on MTN. Yes, my iPad tracks usage but I need to confirm that what my iPad tells me is the same as what MTN has on its records. I got a terrible surprise after I got my SGT10.1 from MTN when the data counter installed on the device was incorrect and registered only a third of actual data used per MTN's records. I do not want a repeat of that.

It is unbelievably frustrating dealing with the Help Desks that cannot get it right. None I spoke to today knows what a nano sim is.

Can't you track usage on the website? Have to take my hat off to 8ta - they not only have a dedicated iOS app but their website is also great.

Register on the mtn site to see your data status. However, one would like to think that big corps like mtn would have already developed a beautiful app that would give you such data at the tap of one button. But perhaps they do not want to do that, because less people will then overrun their limits.

Agreed. Have joys with 8ta and iPad2... no problems. Have to recharge this month though.

I'm on contract. Problem is that to use website one must first register and to register MTN sends an OTP via sms that I need to enter on the webpage to validate that I am who I claim to be. Problem is I cannot get the sms with the OTP as my iPad Mini has no sms service and I do not have a phone that can use a nano sim. There is therefore no way to check.

I now live in Melkbosstrand and the only service working well here is MTN. Vodacom data is very poor (great download speeds but virtual zero upload speeds and very bad latency) and the rest non-existant. MTN runs great ... but how to verify data usage on a nano-sim iPad? They are not there yet.

Make yourself a nano sim adapter and use your phone.

MTN's USSD keypad app is awesome BTW. I use it on my Android tablets (even on my SGT10.1 after I got telephony enabled recently using a hack posted on here).

Will go to MTN shop tomorrow and ask them to get me activated on the website. Help Desk is useless.

Went to MTN shop where they tried to make me an adapter by cutting sims with a special tool ... Unfortunately none of these modified sim cutouts came out right. There is apparently a proper adapter but no stock of them yet.
