Anyone has this before?

I go to my app store, click on the app, click 'Install' ... the App store minimises and it goes to the home screen wait the logo of the App I'm starting to download. Under the load it says waiting - then the entire logo disappears and nothing happens?

No error message ... no 3G being used ...

Tried rebooting, but it does the same thing

Try signing in and out of the app store from the settings menu.

This is what it was doing.

I played a little and seemed to be the larger downloads that wouldn't work (ie above 20MB), but some reason that '20MB limit' window would not pop up. Icons would simply vanish with no explanation.

EDIT : Tried signing in/out and rebooting. Nothing

I had that before. I turned it off, restarted it and I did not turn on the 3G. Connected it to wifi and tried again and the app downloaded perfectly.

I've had this problem before and It's not only limited to 3G. What everyone else has suggested is the typical methods to resolve; also make sure you are not close to your devices storage capacity, Apple has implemented some new controls around what happens when you get close to your storage limits.

These are a few other similar issues I have had:
An app starts downloading and never seems to end (a reboot fixes this + you have to start the download again),
or you can get an app that appears to have downloaded ok, but keeps crashing on start (delete this and download it again).

So far all my downloads/updates was done over wifi and not 3G. Never had any problems.

Now if only Apple would arrange for something similar to Blackberry BIS...

It'll sadly never happen; the networks in the US are starting to feel the impact from for example: SMS bypass services and inevitably they'll adjust their pricing models to make up these losses -- sadly Vodacom, MTN and others will just copy/paste this approach with quite possibly some extra margin.
