Hi guys,

I am realy really stuck and need some assitance.

I am trying to upgrade my iPad2 from 4.3.1 to iOS5 and cannot get it right. I have now downloaded 2 different versions of the iOS5 firmware from 2 different sites and even got the file from Digicape.

When i try and do the update i get and error halfway through (3002) i then try the restore option using any of the files i downloaded and the software extracts but the minute it confirms the update with the Apple Servers it kicks out an error message saying that this device is not eligible for this build.

So i surfed around and found out that some people are having thesame issues due to a change in the the hosts file, i ammended it in several different ways as recommended by several sites, either removing the gs.apple.com reference or # it out or even ammending the adress listed in it. Nothing works, i keep getting the same error.

I downloaded the absolute latest version of itunes this morning directly from the apple server so i dont know what more to do....

I am completely stuck and dont know where else to turn... Does anyone else have an idea ?

PS all the websites i have checked, have said that the above fix works in 95% of cases, mine however doesnt seem to work.

PSS i bought the iPad about 6 months ago off Gumtree from someone who had been to the States and brought in 2. One for himself and one for me.

Thanks

What is the file name you have and are trying to use? Is your iPad 2 the 3G or WiFi only version (maybe the model off the back if it is there)?
I suspect you have the wrong firmware file.
You MUST NOT have the gs.apple.com line in the hosts file (or it must start with a # which means it is commented out)

Sorry i am confused, are you not just plugging it into itunes and letting it do its thing?

I dont have the file in front of me at the moment, however i downloaded 2 versions of the net and one i got directly from digicape. I have tried all 3 of them and they are all labelled the same...

What should it be labelled as, i have a iPad2 3G 16GB.....

I just saw something while checking online, has Apple stopped signing iOS5 ? if thats the case then that would explain why the update is not being regsitered ? Right ?

You need to be installing 5.0.1 as well - I don't think you will be able to install 5.0 anymore as from what I gather Apple has stopped signing that firmware [I could be wrong though] (normal practice from them once the new one comes out). An "update" or "restore" will get that latest one for you but a Shift/Option and picking the file will require you to have the new firmware file.
I'm sure we can get you sorted out.

Good luck, yell if you don't come right and we can take it further.
Personally, I get the firmware file, do a shift (windows) restore, then let it do it's thing then afterwards it asks me if I want to setup as a new device or restore from a backup - and I then pick restore.

I was in the same boat last week and decided enough was enough and went to an iStore at Eastgate Shopping Centre, they did the update for me. There's also one solution I have heard of, download the ipsw and try to update using a different pc. You will later restore your apps from the original pc.

its almost certainly a PC issue.
When ios5 came out we updated about 25 ipads at work on about 20 different pc's, the amount of problems we had was endless. Some pc's needed some certificate manually updated, some needed some funny dns kinda cache entries deleted and all sorts of weird stuff. Easiest is to just go use a different pc.
