This is for a family member.

By older generation I mean someone who grew up without computers, hasn't used one ever :erm:

I'm leaning towards Macbook

depends on purpose, my mom never ever ever ever uses pc's, then we got her an apple ipad and she never puts the thing down.

I second the 'Pad for older folks...

Just think about it - someone that has completely skipped the PC-generation and now leaps into the Post-PC world? Steve Jobs would approve methinks...

My mother has just bought herself a New iPad but it's too early to tell if she's going to take to it or not.

Ya it's for my mom too. ;) Just thought she might struggle with the whole touch screen thing?
Like I said, no computer experience whatsoever - Still think Ipad is the way to go?

Another vote for the iPad.

The touch screen is much easier to explain and get used to and you can also keep the icons for the apps she'll use most on the home page.

Touch screen is FAAAAR easier than a mouse and keyboard...

Both my folks have iPads and can use them pretty easily, they suck on the PC though.

I would rather vote ipad, its got great battery life, you really cannot fux it up unless you drop it.

Ok fanks peeps :)
I'll get the pad and see how she takes to it.

Grandfather is 86 and luuvs the iPad :). The learning curves on these things are super, my 3 year old nephew knows how to swipe and unlock heh.

She will love it.

+1

Got my mom (73) a MBP; within a very short space of time, she was on FB, Skype and managing in email and MS Office.
IMO Apple kit is much easier for the Older and Very young generation.
