I haven't had an iPad since the iPad Mini 2 which I hardly used and ended up giving it to my kids. I decided to try out the new iPad Pro 10.5 today and was amazed at how far they have come since. With the pencil, it will replace my current Surface as a note taking device for work.

Just one question; what is the best case? And where to get it?

I didn't get the Smart Keyboard because at the price I just don't see myself spending that much time typing on it but want some protection for the device seeing as it's going into daily work use at the office.

Get a keyboard with case. I don't see much use of buying one of those except for partially replacing a laptop

Whatever you do, don't lose the pencil chargers cap. They don't sell spares! Use a pencil Cosy if you can

I got a 10.5 iPad on Saturday (birthday present). It is an upgrade from my 6 year old iPad 2. Still looking for a keyboard.

It is between the Smart Keyboard and the Logitech Slim combo. The slim combo is currently ahead because 1) it protects the back and two, has a place for the pen. But the build quality isn't that great (according to reviews) and a bit more bulky.

I suspect that when iOS 11 is launched, plus a keyboard, pen and a HDMI-Lightning connector, I'm pretty much set to only use that for 80% of my work. Microsoft has updated their functionality on the iPad quite extensively and office 365 allows for use in the cloud. There are also some great notes taking and whiteboard apps that should work well for workshops.

The "ProMotion" tech is properly smart & adaptive

Got a 256gb cellular on Wednesday. First iPad (been using iPhone for years).

So far a very nice experience, just gotta get a case asap.

What do you mean. Shows on my end fine. Image upload or picture quality?

There was a new Tapatalk update for iOS I installed today. Some different UI elements as well.
Nah, I see your pics just fine, I just don't know if they represent the smart tech you're talking about (or what that does).

Lol it's the tech:

The Most Advanced Display Featuring ProMotion

iPad Pro introduces ProMotion, which automatically adjusts the display to the movement of the content.
The stunning, redesigned Retina display in iPad Pro features ProMotion, a new technology that delivers refresh rates of up to 120Hz for fluid scrolling, greater responsiveness and smoother motion content. With ProMotion, Apple Pencil is even more responsive with an industry-best, 20-millisecond latency for even more fluid and natural drawing. ProMotion also improves display quality and reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting the display refresh rate to match the movement of the content.

A quick review for those wondering how well the iPad 10.5 works as a laptop replacement. The answer is maybe. Yeah yeah. Spoilt it. No big climax review.

The good:
Wonderful screen
Most of the Office software works
Emailing works fine
The pen is great with OneNote and Notes to make hmmmm....notes.
It is fast....really fast
Keyboard is sturdy enough to type on your lap.

Not so good:
iOS 11 beta is buggy. Files is full of @#$%@#. Yet there is great potential.
Keyboard types funny. Buttons feel weird.
Screen gets dirty quickly.
SO discovered it and asking to use it
Expensive if you buy everything (business paid for mine)
I miss my mouse

For basic applications, office, email, browsing etc., the iPad Pro is perfect. Lightweight, instant on. Microsoft and other vendors have made big strides towards making their apps mobile and the advances of cloud storage adds to the mobility. If you travel a lot or are in meetings a lot making notes, this is a better option than a 13 inch laptop.

Staying away from the iOS 11 Beta for now, coz, you know - it's a Beta - but really looking forward to the proper release. Think it will make a huge difference to what can be done.

Have the 1st gen 12.9", bought primarily for the Pencil use (bought before the 9.7" Pro was released), and the screen real estate. Think iOS 11 is going to be a real game-changer on the larger iPad. Doubt it will ever fully replace my MBP, but will be a serious contender as a "only" device on business trips/conferences etc.

Annotating PDFs etc. remains an absolute pleasure on an iPad, especially with the Pencil - and with the Files.app and drag-drop etc. functionality, going to very interesting to see how things develop.
