If an SMS comes through to the iPad number - anyway to read it?

Seems like just another one of the things that the iPad excels at NOT being able to do

Is that an Apple joke?

Well with email why would you give your number out to SMS? My kindle doesn't do SMS either by the way:). For SMS use iMessage, if you really want SMS. The sim card is there for data connection when you have no wifi

Well no the joke part is that there are almost preprogrammed replies to anything Apple manufactures.

Usually the answer to one of these :

Can it do x?
Why can't it do x?
It should do x?
I wish it did x!

Is usually this :

Why would you want to do x?
I've never used x!
x is a dying technology!
y is better than x - hence why we have it!
It's someone elses fault that x can't be done

* x being any flaw - whether designed that way or forgotten completing on any iDevice over the past 10 years.

It's just become a running joke - that's apologies if it was a serious question ...

By the way - you can't put the SIM into a phone because - um - it was designed a micro SIM. It would be fantastic to receive - for example - how close you are to your limit or whether the data plan is expired. Or perhaps when you click on some sites 'forgot password?' it sends an SMS to your SIM (ie Vodacom).

That's two off the top of my head ...

I get the joke. And hear it on the Simpsons and south park, but in this case your request is a little strange even for apple.

The irritation with the microsim is that if your device especially a phone goes for repairs you have no easy replacement in the interim

If I had an Ipad with a datasim, I'd probably want to read those nasty bundle reminders sooner rather than later.

Pretty easy if you haven't discarded the cutaway.

You've found yet another reason why you are a good candidate for jail breaking;
http://www.labnol.org/software/make-phone-calls-on-ipad/19561/ Ps you'll look very silly with the iPad next to your ear... two handed job I think...:D
