Hi

Tomorrow I am getting my iPad 4,yay:D ! I have a screen protector for it,and also a case for it. Now I just need one more thing - a stylus.

Can someone please reccomend a (cheap) stylus which is good for note taking please ? I don't want to spend too much the first time round,if I see a stylus is the thing for me,I'll go for something more expensive like the Wacom Bamboo.

But I don't want something that will break even if I just look at it for too long. (My limit is around R150.) I would prefer it if I can buy it online,as I live in the middle of the middle between somewhere and nowhere.

Thanks in advance

Make your own one - it will only cost a bit, and some time. Will give you an opportunity to see if you need the stylus. I did it - google it - don't need too much. Trickiest part is the "tip", but most pc stores will have what you need.

Now have the Just Mobile Alupen Pro.

Stylus for note taking? On the ipad? Are you crazy?

Why not just "record" instead? Plenty apps to record audio.

I should recommend the stylus maybe for some art/design apps, but not for taking notes.

IMO that is where the Samsung tablets are superior. With the iPad even if you want to use it to take notes with a stylus you will always end up reverting back to the keyboard due to the capacitive screen not being great for note taking.

I was looking at the Samsung Note 10.1,but the screen resolution is just not good enough.

As for the stylus,it's something I want to try out,(as a student I like to take notes, and I'm not always in an environment I can record and replay it).

As for the home made stylus,I might just try it

Do you have a cover for it, check bidorbuy iPad smart cover, there is one guy giving away a stylus with each smart cover purchase.

i have tried a cheap stylus on my ipad and I found that writing definitely takes a lot longer and requires way more effort than simply touching the on screen keyboard with your fingers. Maybe one of those iPad covers with the built in bluetooth keyboards might be an option. As previously mentioned the dictation mode works quite well.

I've moved through several stylii(?) [what the heck is the plural for stylus?] - and have come to the conclusion that, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Started out with a home-made. Then went through several versions, started from really cheap, and eventually ending with the Alupen Pro, that's also a pen. The latter is far and away the best. Provided you keep your screen clean, it really is noticeable how much better the Alupen writes.

As for those who argue that you don't need a stylus - each to their own. I use mine daily. I have NoteTaker HD, which I really rate as a note taking app. I'm also involved in the Academic world - but sit in plenty of meetings/attend many seminars etc., where many notes are taken. Yes you can record - but recording a two hour session is much more difficult to review later, than a 10 page PDF document that you can scan through to get to the relevant section... [Obviously there is nothing wrong with simply typing - but using a stylus in specific apps, or being able annotate over PDF's can give you much more 'poetic-license', as it were...]

I have tried using my finger, and whereas it no doubt works as expected, it's not as precise as the sylus. Which is perfectly logical, since unless you have the fingers of a 5 year old, there will always be more 'finger' in contact with the screen, than stylus tip. Furthermore, whereas writing plenty with a stylus simply feels the same as it would writing with an ordinary pen (which most of us are used to from school days), writing with your finger is not really natural - unless you finger painted all the way through high-school... :P Your finger gets tired. Seriously.

I use my iPad extensively. It's all I take along with me to lectures/seminars and meetings. If you plan on writing on it extensively, a stylus is a no-brainer, imo.

The Samsung tabs are also capacitive. The Samsung Note devices are capacitive as well. They just have a dedicated stylus. Not 100% sure how that S Pen actually works. Amazingly accurate and responsive.

I'm looking for a stylus that has a mesh tip. I\ve got cheaper rubber ones but they only last a few weeks.

I use Noteablity for notes on my iPad, I've been though a few different apps and i find this one to be the best.

My handwriting has driven three generations of teachers into premature senility, so I don't take handwritten notes.

That being said, when I researched styluses for drawing purposes about a year ago, I found all the reviewers gushing over the Adonit Jot Pro. Best thing is to get to a shop and ask to try out a few models.
