So - just got back from honeymoon - copied all my photos off my iPad and it died, when you turn it on it fades from a black screen to a white screen... then turns off the screen. Every now and then it turns on and I can use it. Strangely, I can still see it as active on iCloud - and tried Erasing it there, it then worked for a couple of hours, but is back to the white screen now. sometimes when I hold the Home screen/Power button it works again for a few minutes.

Just after I got it I knocked the one corner while playing on it while walking in the house (walked into a wall) - and it has a small ding in the one corner... will Apple/Core try use this as an excuse not to repair/replace it under warranty?

It depends on how deformed the corner is, I highly doubt you managed to crack the glass of the corner.
Since you said that you managed to geting it to work after remote wipe and reset you could try to restore the firmware from iTunes and see if it helps other wise time to head off to your Retailer or iStore

Probably, but we all know you enjoy nothing more than a good fight!

:p

Thats why I'm asking :( really not in the mood to fight once again

Hardly deformed at all, looks more like the paint was scrapped off - the glass or screen isn't damaged at all.

It seems to work when it wants too - it actually still seems active though, as the volume button, etc still work and respond

You should try to restore the Firmware through iTunes if it doesn't work take it in i doubt slight paint scraped off should be much of a problem

Hope so... I'll do that tomorrow. Just found out my projects have changed, so I'm stuck at home till next week anyway.

Restore didn't work - it was fine for awhile and now its doing the white screen thing again.

Exact same thing happened to me with my Asus TF101. :D

So far not fun... Took it in this morning, "its definetly broken, but you need an appointment to return it".

So here I sit waiting for my 12:30 appointment to return ny buggered iPad.

Who wants a bet I'll need something else at 12:30.

And??

Was out of there at 13:15 - so it took basically my morning to return it, now to wait for them to assess it.

A very backwards practice of requiring a "appointment" to book in a dead device for warranty purposes - especially after they checked it, saw it was dead, and told me to make an appointment to come back and book it in. When I was their the first time, the store was empty, when I came back for my "appointment", it was packed with people requiring assistance.
