iPad2 + sms

Hey guys,

it's my father's birthday tomorrow, and me & the rest of the family pulled together & bought him a 3G ipad 2. Now, he's always bashing out sms's on his iphone, so i'm wondering whether he can do this on the ipad as well? How would i need to set that up? Get him a linked sim for his vodacom contract?

Or should i just skip it and get him a cellc prepaid data sim?

Not sure if he can sms from the iPad, but I suggest getting him a CellC sim, it's way cheaper data wise.

"proper" SMS on the iPad is only available if you jailbreak the device. Then you can download something like SwirlySMS

Or you can use something like WiFi SMS installed on your iPhone, and then send SMS's through your iPhone from the iPad. Also requires a jailbreak and WiFi connection.

You could also use skype to send texts from the ipad if you want. I tried textfree on my iphone once and it didnt work for myself but wil ltry it again.

It seems like yu have got some good feedback and have a few options.
