Guys I need some help here please

I want to buy the SO an iPad2 but am unsure which model to buy. If I get her the normal wifi model, will she be able to connect to the internet using her Blackberry, that newest slide touch screen model, as a modem or will it not work? Should I rather just get her the wifi and 3g model?

Thanks

If the BB has wifi sharing (or tethering) - iirc it is available in OS7 - then it should be possible. I'm fairly certain it will require additional data bundles on the BB though.

If you need to use a connection other than a ADSL connection then rather get the Wifi + 3G version, the 32GB is the inbeween version or if you being cautious wait for the the New iPad coming most probably in April sometime. If Core is to follow last years pricing then it will be very close to what current iPad 2 pricing is at.

Again not trying to force more choice and confusion into your hands but an updated screen + gfx processor for nearly the same price for a new buyer hardly seems like something to pass by imo.

Ultimately the 3G version and one of those 10GB data packages. :)

But the current price for the entry model ipad2 is R4k, do you think the new ipad will be priced at that?

I'm sure I read somewhere that Vodacom doesn't allow the BB to be used as a hotspot? I'm not sure if it's changed or if other providers are the same, but maybe something he'd look at.

You'd end up wasting all your data.

You're limited in what you can download and use - so although Garageband, GTA and others can be downloaded, it can't be done over 3G at all and will kick you to wifi anyway. Any updates on anything larger than 50MB, and you're thrown to wifi. Perhaps Facetime? Again - only wireless.

You can't make the tablet a hotspot either - so there's pretty much no way of getting the data off the tablet. You're pretty much putting 10GB on your iPad with no ways in which to use it, other than browsing. A 2GB is more than enough IMO

Personally I say go for a 3G model. I find 3 G to be especially useful on the iPad. I have a wifi only iPad and often wish I had gotten the 3G model, just for moments when I'm away and need to have Internet. It is true that there are limitations like Dolby said. If you have a good smartphone with tethering you're ok though.

You can jailbreak and get past the size restriction on apps, possibly even use your iPad as a hotspot. Although that's not so simple.

Thanks for all the replies guys. What do you think the price of the iPad3 16g wifi and 3g would be like when its released at places like dion wired etc?

^ me too. I got a wifi hotspot (HTC wildfire) but its just not the same. I now have to carry around the extra phone if i want to connect to 3G.

I would go for the wifi+3G model. Rather to have the 3G and not use it than not to have it and need it.

We are hoping that the 3rd gen iPad 16GB + WiFi + 4G comes in at around R5599-00, R5999-00 the most. We won't know for sure until it's released.
