I recently started playing around with ipcop, but I'm looking for a way now to boot and run ipcop from a USB flashdrive. I know it is possible to run it from a CF card (to IDE converter). Is it possible to run it from a USB drive or should I try to rather get one of the before mentioned converters?

Also can anyone maybe point me to a supplier/retailer that might have stock of a CF to IDE connector?

It's possible to run it from a USB drive, you only have to set it up this way. There is an installation specifically for booting from USB, you can get it off their site www.ipcop.org. It will also be a lot better than trying to run it from a CF card- drivers, possibly other issues.

I saw it on their site and tried it but as far as I could see the main idea of the "how-to" is to create a CF IDE version of IPCOP. I did try it though with no success. The system would boot but then during the startup some errors would surface, something like kernel invalid path (cant remember the exact error now).

I am willing to struggle further as long as I know it can be done.

Are you referring to this link?

That should work. It sounds like you're having problems somewhere along your IDE connections (more software/driver based probably).
A friend of mine uses IPCOP, said that it's best to have a large-ish sized disk available, preferably above 4GB.

I'll have to go the HDD way then. Reason that I wanted a flash based medium is less noise and less power consumption. I already have a VIA PC-1 PC1000 embedded motherboard which is dead silent, would have been nice to get ipcop to run from flashdrive. Anyway, thanks for your input froot.
