iPhone 11 eSim

But your physical sim is still active ? So you can still use it in another phone in case of emergency ?

It’s still active, yes, but have no need for it to be in another phone.

Would come in handy if I lose my phone with the esim on I suppose.

I still need to have my other phone on to ensure calls and texts come through to the esim. I’m wondering if their process has changed since I got mine in January and new esim don’t need to be “tethered”? Wondering if it’s worth canceling my current service and re-subscribing? It’s free at the moment with 3 months free subs as well.

I told Vodacom that I’m using it in my iPhone, maybe there is a toggle on their side who knows...

I guess it’s about what you want to achieve. For me, I don’t want an Android device and I don’t want to get an iPhone from overseas that supports dual sim as I’d be concerned about warranty support. My local iPhone can then give me what I want, a VC number that I’ve had for 15 years and cheaper data from rain, with no commitment. If that means I have another phone lying around in my house that’s always on then I don’t mind that. I don’t have to carry the 2nd phone around with me, it just has to be on and connected to the network.

if that doesn’t work for you, don’t do it. I’m just sharing my experience.

For me I would use an 11 Pro or 12 Pro (with e-sim or 2 x nano-sim) IF IOS supported App Cloning
they don't , so I use Android
I want the 2 x whatsapp accounts and 2 x telegram accounts and and and.
IOS does'nt allow this by default , I don't want to jailbreak anything.
I can do this on Android , so if that is my requirement then sadly Apple wont get my monies this year.

FWIW if you got the latest 5G iPhone on the cards ,it does not seem to offer 5G service on e-sim and physical sim unless 1 of them is disabled.
Naturally I don't have a Samsung Note 20 D/S 5G sitting in my draw where I can tell you that Android allows this on 2x nano-sims

Interesting read, will bear that in mind when iPhone12 is available. Not rushing to use the 5G just yet, but would want it to work while both Sims are active. Thanks

Vodacom and MTN will only develop esim only after one of Telkom and cell C do it. They have no incentive to do anything now.

Incentive seems to be to develop the capability on wearable devices 1st rather than phones
Perhaps Discovery , FNB etc are punting carriers to do this for some or other kickback or business deal or commission
For those who got it working , well done (e-sim) on phone.

I personally dont do any international travel , I just prefer my 2 numbers so dual nano sim it is on Android (plus app-cloning) until Apple and the carriers get their crap together.

And I don't want to jailbreak or root anything to get basic stuff to work.

5G is useless really until 2025.

Perhaps advocating for Tesla etc to bring their cars to SA will make it happen sooner
These cars work with OTA updates for services and features etc
So of enhanced version of BMW's current ConnectedDrive (works over Vodacom) and provisioned somewhat from Germany and similar to Toyota which has partnered with Vodacom and not too sure about Mercedes Me option who they have partnered with.
The more "e-sim" cars on the road , the greater the network demand.

Or I am smoking crap.

It's really not that. The moment one provider makes a esim, suddenly people will use one sim for calls and another for data. Why screw your own profits?

If Rain offers e-sim and Vodacom roams on Rain for additional 4G and 5G coverage and Telkom accuses them of having "merged" , who exactly is getting screwed as no one else has "official" launched e-sim on phones , only on wearable like watches.
Some in this forum have e-sim working on their phones after probably having had to learn a masonic handshake.
So , no-ones profits with the current status quo is going to get screwed.
The operator doesnt "make" an e-sim , a provider like TruPhone etc sells them the kit to provide for this capability , they simply customize to the handset manufacturer and network requirement.
E-sim is not mandatory and unless honestly you have more adoption of it , SA operators are going to take their time , frustrating as it is.
If you don't travel , a dual nano-sim phone does the same thing finish and klaar.

Not all Android work dual sim 5G (and will likely be 5G on one, 4G on the other when resolved), all Android phones with a Qualcomm chip are the same, it's a Qualcomm issue which is supposedly going to be resolved by an OTA update at some stage.

Got this really cool case with “Camera Protection” off of Takelot for my 11 Pro Max, have to say I am really impressed with it, feels like great quality even the Camera protection slider is sturdy and it “clicks” into place when closing it so it sits securely over the cameras.

No more having to wipe before taking a pic, lol.

Kind of gives me nostalgia of my old Sony Ericsson W800i with Camera cover as well as the Nokia Nseries phones like the N97 and N900 that had camera covers like this.

Got it in green to go with the midnight green of the phone, think it looks pretty nice.

And here I am just rocking a dbrand skin lol

I have a tendency to collect cases to keep my phones feeling new, lol. This is not even my worst, I think with my old Galaxy Note8 was my worst, I had about 3-4 cases for it, had 2 with the iPhone XS Max, and was planning to buy a black leather one before it got stolen.

Here is the current collection for my 11PM, and I doubt it will end here, may just look into some dbrand skins to, haha!
