iPhone 11 eSim

I have a tendency to collect cases to keep my phones feeling new, lol. This is not even my worst, I think with my old Galaxy Note8 was my worst, I had about 3-4 cases for it, had 2 with the iPhone XS Max, and was planning to buy a black leather one before it got stolen.

Here is the current collection for my 11PM, and I doubt it will end here, may just look into some dbrand skins to, haha!

I haven’t rocked cases for quite a few years now. Their main purpose is to avoid them breaking, but I realised that it’s exactly why I have all risk insurance included in my household.

My daughter threw my wife’s Apple Watch across the room last week, called to claim and had the cash in my account the next day.

I’ve dropped my phone many times and haven’t broken it yet, but the dents are real lol. Pretty liberating just to use it.

Yah most cases I buy are more for aesthetic, LOL! It’s like my way of modding the phone to exactly what I want it to look like, every now and then I do take the phone out the case and use it caseless, then I get bored of it that way and put it back, also these phones tend to be a little slippery, when I use it caseless it tends to slip down the slightest angle on a couch for example.

I may use it in this case for quite a while though, I really like the contrast between the shiny bits of the phone and the matte/pastel green of the case, very refreshing look. The leather case made it look too grown up and serious, haha.

Also just realized now I used the wring iPhone 11 thread for all this, sorry OP!

Argghhh, I thought there might be some new info on eSim :p

I'm desperately waiting because I really want a 12 mini, but I can't give up my dual nano sim 11 unless the 12 has eSim support.

The 12 does have esim, process hasn’t changed for esim. The catch is you just need to have the actual sim in another phone active on the network. I have mine in an old Nokia plugged in somewhere in a cupboard. My iPhone esim (Vodafone) and physical sim (Telkom) works flawlessly.

So if I have a physical sim, how do I tell the people in the Vodacom shop to activate the eSim on the same number?

Whatever you do, don’t ask them to help you because you end an open mind.

It’s documented in this thread or another, but you basically active esim for a wearable. Instead of adding it to a wearable you add it to your iPhone. Done.

Ah okay, seems simple enough :p

I'll give it a bash tomorrow on my wife's phone.

It was pretty easy, although I have no idea how to go about adding it onto a new phone when I get one, I suppose I either ask Vodacom for a new activation or I try the old code on the new phone...

FWIW, when I asked Vodacom to activate it, they emailed me a QR code and SMSed a confirmation code. It’s all I needed to activate in the iPhone.

Spoke to vodacom today and they said it won’t work on my iPhone 11 but only on the watch. Also because my number is from work they can’t do it

Worked for me. They are not the most knowledgable folks.

Has anyone had any luck with MTN and their newly launched eSims? I popped into a store the other day and the person there looked at me like I was from outer space.

Vodacom’s eSim seems to be a load of hogwash. I have my Apple Watch Series 5 on their eSim system and it appears to be tied to another number which gets routed to from my original number.

The reason I say this is because the minute the add-on was activated (I added an Apple Watch to an existing contract as an add-on - was already a year into the contract) an additional number and IMEI with the same billing credentials etc showed up on my profile. When I click on the number on the online portal the info is the exact same as my primary contract.

Yea. It’s the same. If someone dials the number both items will ring.

Why does an eSim system require an additional number to be added to the profile? It’s not one number as they advertise it to be... It’s just call routing.

I don’t really care as long as it works.

Yeah so what you're saying is that it's not true eSim as advertised. They're doing stuff in the background to jippo it to work.

When I make a call from the esim number it works as though it is that number. When someone calls my number both my esim and the physical sim ring. I don’t see the issue. Assumptions are being made as to the correct way to do so, keen to hear the experts.

So what is the process to get an eSim for an Iphone while circumventing the Vodacom peeps that say it can't be done?

I'm using my e-Sim with Airalo international packages for roaming data. Works like a charm.
[Edit: My home/physical sim is MTN]
