iPhone 11 eSim

Has anyone had any luck with MTN and their newly launched eSims? I popped into a store the other day and the person there looked at me like I was from outer space.

Just come from MTN. Dude told me he knows what it is but doesn't remember how it's done.

Will just try another store

When I make a call from the esim number it works as though it is that number. When someone calls my number both my esim and the physical sim ring. I don’t see the issue. Assumptions are being made as to the correct way to do so, keen to hear the experts.
Same with me but it appears to be call routing instead of one number. I could understand the IMEI’s being attached to a profile but a different number along with it makes it seem like a bunch of tripe on Vodacom’s behalf.

Well that was easy. I went into my Vodacom store, told them I want eSim for my watch that is under the Chrsitmas tree so just give me the code and I'll sort it myself. The guy said there is no QR code just pair the watch with the phone on the app. I was pretty confused but went along with it, he activated the eSim on their system and I left thinking wtf do I do now.

Checked my email and the code was there, obviously generated and sent automatically which the guy in the shop knew nothing about. So I went home, put physical sim in another phone, scanned QR code with new iPhone 12 mini, and voila, I now have the eSim with my normal number on my new phone and a data sim in the nano sim slot.

Actually just shows that Vodacom's decision to not offer eSim on their phones is purely a business decision and not down to Apple as they said previously.

I also see I have a new phone number added to my app and the minutes and data etc are all mirror images of my original phone number.

So yes, it looks like this is just call forwarding.

It was always business. Much like their development of a real-time billing system for contract. They are liars.

It’s a relic from their OneNumber offering. But yeah, hopefully they sort it proper seeing that MTN has proper esim support.

Then again, I actually like having two phones with the same number.

Do you think it’s necessary to have the nano sim in another phone and active to kee the eSim alive?

The esim will always be alive and working, however if you want to receive calls on it you need to have the physical sim active.

Data and making calls will always be fine.

I noticed this morning that I had 3 sms's over the weekend that came to my nano sim in the old phone in my drawer, but not to my eSim in my 12 mini.

I went to MTN Centurion Mall and they said they don't do eSim for prepaid lines only contract.
