Does iCloud also sort and categories photos like Google Photos ?
You'd be able to type 'cat' or 'ocean' to find what you need ?

My mom is using an iPhone with Google Photos and it's be logical to switch - but I don't want her to lose functionality

Yeah the search is much the same.

What I find lacking are the auto share features with your partner and that kind of thing.

But Google Photos works perfectly on iOS, if you pay for extra storage even.

Ah ok - then maybe I'll move her over to iCloud.

She isn't interested in the more advanced features - but being able to find something via who / what is in the photo, is important

Thanks!

But recently tried to make the switch from Google Photos to Apple (iCloud) Photos and it’s deeply lacking in many ways so now I end up running both.
I prefer google photos - it's free

Yeah I think that’s kind of the point of the ecosystem: get you in with something like an iPhone (which accounted for 50% of their revenue), and then once you see how well everything is integrated, you start buying other devices.

I’ve recently made the switch from Samsung to iPhone, partially because I was desperate for a change for ages, but also because I’ve been looking for a smart watch, and the Apple Watch ticks all the boxes (and would work infinitely better when paired with an iPhone).
I was stubborn, I have had iPads since 2012, but then got my first iPhone in 2019 and shortly after that the Apple Watch.

I believe Apple do see the iPhone and especially the ones like SE and Mini as very important and strategic ways of getting people into the ecosystem. You may have parents buying their kids an SE, a Mini or an older model that’s still on sale like an iPhone 11 at lower prices or people who want to try out Apple but don’t want to pay a lot of money dipping their toes in with a one of these models then realising that they really like it and getting more devices and also subscribing to services that are linked to those devices. Suddenly someone who bought an SE decides to get an Apple Watch SE and a MacBook Air or iPad or AirPods and the snowball builds from there.

I’m sure Apple has some interesting infographics shared internally that demonstrates “the average Apple customer journey” with historical data and estimates/predictions of how they have grown SaaS etc… through different devices and what is most important to keep around. The Mini could be contributing greatly to future prospects because it may be mostly bought by first time Apple users for example who show great potential to purchase services down the road and possibly more hardware when they are happy with the experience in their iPhone SE, Mini or whatever else. Same could go for someone who enters from a MacBook or iPad perspective and grows into the ecosystem through that.

Only Apple really know what’s cracking though, I tend to shy away from looking at Apple rumours because time and time again the leaksters are often wrong or way off or are not even aware of an extra product being announced. The iPhone Minis could be a fail to the people who are from the outside trying to looking in, but Apples view could be completely different when they look at how it can grow their SaaS business and even hardware business (wearables, laptops etc…)

You can test it any time with the default free storage.

Not any more.

Now it’s only free until you hit 15Gb.

But even after that it’s relatively affordable.

I create a new account every year and share that with my main account. It’s just for my phones so I’ve never hit the limit.

iPhone doing particularly well in the battery and camera categories and iPhone 13 definitely a strong choice for any user

I said the same thing about backstreetboy

Been visiting SA and wanted to find an iPhone 13 pro to buy. I think it is easier to find a honest SA politician than a new iPhone 13 pro
