Whilst notifications in general are outstanding on iPhone, the default Mail app seems to not do anything in the background. If I open it, it will update my 3x Google accounts (2 work, 1 personal), but it seems unable to do that on its own and show me notifications. Pretty annoying. It isn't even listed in the Background Refresh list so not sure what I could have misconfigured.

Set up a text replacement under keyboards if you want an auto space after a comma.

I haven’t used mail.app since google cut them off. Spark works well.

Google killed push for gmail on the iOS mail app years ago, I'm pretty sure that's still the case. The gmail app will give instant notifications.

That’s a bummer. I was using Google’s app but the default one looks so much nicer.

Yeah I just use the GMail app, I think Google give a great experience on iOS comparable to Android, in my experience, maybe even a little better in some instances, as some features will actually come to iOS first sometimes.

The iOS mail app I have given up on completely as I am still tied to Google in a lot of things both work and personal.

Same here. The built in Mail app just doesn’t play well with Google at all at the moment, but I’m about to start getting everything moved over to my iCloud mail account. It’s a serious slog, though. But once it’s done, I won’t have to be tied to Google anymore.

I did that already, initially with just forwarding and archiving and as time went on changing my email address to the custom domain I have on iCloud or the HideMy emails.

That being said, it’s not really apple mail that’s the issue, google only exposes pop and imap to 3rd parties meaning in order to push mail to you, they are polling server side for new mails. Google does not expose anyway for 3rd parties to “push” mail, only “pull”.

They are working around Google, no way in hell apple is going to dedicate resources to something like that, which from what I read also creates a security vulnerability, which goes against everything apple says publicly.

So I am on MTN and seem to be having an issue with mobile data on my iPhone 13 Pro. Hopefully someone here may know what's going on or at least give me some direction to pursue. To provide some context, LTE via MTN is our primary internet at home. I have datashare activated, so essentially sharing from the same pool of data. I have sim cards on the Huawei B618 router and of course my phone.

The issue I notice is that with some apps (like FNB, Ster Kinekor, Checkers Sixty60), when I am on mobile data, it sees me as being offline sometimes. For example, I cannot login to FNB for a while - it tells me that I do not have internet. With the Ster Kinekor and Checkers apps, I don't even see the landing page until a connection is established. Sometimes exiting the app and entering works after a few tries. Or if I disable data and re-enable it, that helps too. When this issue occurs, I can still browse normal websites. So I presume there might be a problem at times accessing some other port?

Also, when I am connected via wifi to the B618 router, then I do not have this issue. So I don't think this is purely an MTN issue. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I have this exact same problem - especially with the FNB App. It will somedays only work after a couple of tries, but when I’m on the wifi I won’t have any problems.

I am also using MTN LTE and also connected on datashare.
 
Off topic not sure where to ask - Is there a thread for iPhone 11 or XR? MyBB doesnt search 11 or XR as they are too short and the first 10 pages of this subthread doesn't seem to have one.

Don’t know, but seems like a good enough reason for you to go and start one if one doesn’t already exist.

Go iPhone 11, it brought a bigger battery, more RAM and a Ultrawide camera along with Night Mode and Deep Fusion.

BUT you can always do poll.

Quite honestly go for the one where the price makes the most sense.

I went from an XR to an 11 and in the real world the one is indistinguishable from the other.
