iPhone 13 discussions

It'll be at least Nov/Dec before the 14 hits us and who knows what shortages we will have. I've just ordered a 13, waiting for the 14 is not on the menu for me.

We had stock of the 13 for it launch without any issues. Got mine the day it was available, no reason to think the 14 will be any different

To a certain point I don’t get why people always “want to wait” for new tech…at the rate tech is renewed, the device you want to wait for is also gonna be “old” in a short amount of time.

Yeah sure, the 14 range may be less than six months away, that also means the 15 range is less than 18 months away.

Yeah sure, the 14 range may be less than six months away, but that also means the 13 range, which everyone could not wait to get their hands on, is barely more than 6 months old.

If you want/need a new device, go and get what’s currently on the market. In a few years’ time you gonna get something new and better again.

PS. Not criticising or attacking anyone with this post, no one should take it personally or feel insulted by it - just casually giving an objective opinion to think about

Not sure what payment options people take when getting smartphones ( contract / cash), either way if you’re going to pay for a device over 24 months, might as well choose the latest model.

My last iPhone I purchased cash last year February (iPhone 12).

Many factors.

Example being iPhone 13 was the double jump in capacity for similar money making far more sense than getting an iPhone 12.

Also, if you are only upgrading every 3-4 years it makes a lot more sense to get the latest when you’ve already waited so long as it will stretch further and he supported for longer.

Flip-side of it is that it’s often worth waiting for the new one to come out so that you can buy the old one for much less.

Another thing to consider if the subscription model rumours are true, is that the 13 (and depending on timing, the 14) will be the last iPhone that you actually own.

I suspect the subscription model will be an alternative rather than the only option.

Hasn’t been mentioned in any of the rumours or YouTube rants I’ve seen, but would definitely be plausible for them to give us that option. Also wonder what it would mean for carriers.

Not just for carriers, Apple has a big presence in box sellers like Target in the US and Argos in the UK. The subscription idea won't work in that scenario.

I have a feeling that it might also change the legalities around it being a financial contract like a vehicle lease which is another can of worms for consumer legislation especially in places like the EU (and UK).

As mentioned previously, why wait 6 months to get the 14 when it’s only 12 more months to the 15?

Indeed. I think you will see carriers and retailers working their own deals with Apple, no way will Apple just mess them over, in many countries Apple depend on them.

Carriers are still a large part of the game as they “own” the airwaves.

I very much doubt the subscription model will replace ownership.

In fact I doubt the subscription model itself will even remove ownership, if not by default then through exit clauses etc.

Leases usually have an option to buy outright or trade in for the new model at the end, so could be an option. But like I said, none of that has been mentioned in any of the rumours, so will have to wait to hear it from Apple to see if any of it is even true.

I doubt Apple have got as far as deciding on specific options, there is the problem that virtually every country has different regulations for leasing, it'll likely be a US only option at launch imo.

Apple now manufacturing iPhone 13 in India

Apple is now manufacturing the iPhone 13 locally in India at a Foxconn plant near Chennai. The news comes after earlier reports already confirmed Cupertino had started trial production of the iPhone 13 in India back in December.

"We are excited to begin making iPhone 13 — with its beautiful design, advanced camera systems for stunning photos and videos, and the incredible performance of the A15 Bionic chip right here in India for our local customers."

Apple also manufactures some its older models in India like the iPhone 12, iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2020) and is estimated to make 70% of the phones it sells in India locally. Previous reports suggest the iPhone 13 Pro series is next in line to be made in India.

Hopefully it changes this:

It’s basically cheaper to fly to Dubai, buy the phone there, and fly back, than it is to buy it in India. And this is a country where the majority of the population lives in squalor, so the aforementioned route will never even be an option.

My Dbrand screen protector arrived a few minutes ago. Really impressed. Feels every bit as nice once applied as the naked screen, and the application process is very nicely put together.

Combined with their Grip case that I was already using, and cheap insurance from Naked (R250pm), I have a lot of peace of mind now with this expensive phone.

I’ve been using dbrand for years now, awesome cases and I love the range of vinyl patterns for the case back
