iPhone 13 discussions

Got a 13 yesterday and coming from 12 mini I forgot how huge these things are. Thumb has already had a big workout stretching to close windows.

I'm currently using a 12 Mini, and I'm a little upset that the 13 Mini will/might be the last one in this form factor. The pocketability is just too good.
That said, I reckon I'll wait to see that the 14 lineup looks like. The rumours are that the vanilla iPhones will keep the current set of Bionic processors, and only the Pro models will get the next-gen one... does that then mean the plain models are getting one less iteration of software updates?

Might have to start saving for the 14 Pro then.

Isn't that a question better asked in 6-7 years?

We will see when the time comes, but I given that the iPhone 6S is still being supported (for what like 8 years now?) I think the 12 Mini and 13 Mini will probably get supported longer than you’ll have the 12 Mini at this point.

I think a good way to gauge how long your iPhone will get support is to look at the standard iPad running a similar chip and RAM. The 2021 iPad (10.2) has got a A13 from iPhone 11 era and 3GB RAM (1GB RAM less than iPhone 11 series), doubt you need to worry about supper on a 12 Mini on A14 with 4GB RAM.

Does anyone know what's going on with iPhone 13 Mini stock? I want to get one, but neither Telkom nor the iStore has stock. It's even been removed from Telkom's website, although it is still in the brochure.

Sure, but I'm looking to get it on contract.

BTW, they only have stock of the 256GB model. The 128GB model is sold out.

They don’t even have stock of the SE, which is supposedly having production cuts due to low demand.

Apple ups its iPhone 13 Pro series orders in light of increased demand

The Elec reports that Apple has increased its order for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max this quarter. And that's mainly because the demand for the more expensive Pro series is getting higher than initially anticipated.

In the first quarter of this year, Apple ordered just a million of the smaller iPhone 13 Pro while the Max was produced in 3.5 million units. Starting Q2 2022, however, the standard Pro sees a whopping increase to 8 million orders, whereas the Pro Max sees a bump to 6.5 million. That makes a 10 million increase over the last quarter. This is good news for Apple as the average selling price of the iPhone 13 family will increase and investors will be happy with the extra revenue.

Seems like an odd move, considering September is approaching. Feels like they'd be poaching iPhone 14 sales by doing this.

We are only in April...
Yep, which means it's only 5 months away. Not many people getting an iPhone 13 now are going to upgrade in 5 months time. Some will, but the majority won't. So if we're adding 4 million iPhone 13s, that's 4 million people who won't be standing in line for a 14.

Then again, they'll still sell the 13 once the 14 releases so maybe it makes sense. If they can produce these additional 13s in that time frame, they'll have back stock of the 13 and capacity to build the 14s.

I can't imagine many people with the 13 are planning on upgrading when the 14 comes out even if they got it when it was launched. Most cellphone contract terms are 24 months.

Also worth considering is how long it took for most people to get their 13s after launch. The “chip shortage” is still a factor and I don’t think the 14 launch will be any different, so many/most will just long out their 13s, especially if on contract.

Of course, if they own their phones outright, there’s nothing stopping them from just trading them in for the 14s.

Odds are it's 6 months away, ordering in September for end September or early October delivery. They're only half way through the 13's cycle.
Yes exactly...despite the craziness that there's a new model every 12 months, any given model should at least then still be on sale and available for 12 months.

I once again say, this "waiting" for the new model is absurd...if you need a phone now, get it now. That new one that you want to wait for, is going to be old in a few months anyway.
