iPhone 13 discussions

Pretty interesting comparison video by Marques and Arun, I definitely agree with Marques on how iOS gets these little subtle things so damn right and Apple’s focus on aesthetic which equates to a great UX, I’ve been tempted to get a S22 Ultra purely due to the tech nerd in me seeing it’s spec sheet but I cannot convince myself to leave iOS, it’s just been so good, and having used androids for a long time I know that I’ll be missing iOS by day 2

Does anyone know exactly why the Apple products in SA are exponentially more expensive than almost every other country? I bought my iPhone 13 Pro 256GB in Malaysia for 19K and Airpods Pro for 3K. Will be buying the Macbook Air M2 in Thailand, where it costs 19K and Apple Watch 7Gen Aluminum for 6K. Even in places like Germany, everything is still way cheaper than SA.

Probably not the only reason, but: because Core group owns the distribution rights and takes a cut, same thing if you buy a Nikon or Sony camera, I'm sure there are other brands as well.

It's the same situation elsewhere. In Asia, there are very few stores that are even called iStore, every place is just an authorized reseller with some random name (bought my stuff from shops called "Switch" and "Machines"). It seems that the Core group is just extra greedy compared to everywhere else.

I think that and added SARS import duties etc. eventually just adds up. It's especially noticeable if you look at screens, discussed here: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/mac-price-puzzle.1188508/

I wouldn't say everywhere is way cheaper, UK for example is about the same as us and even a bit more expensive if you convert directly on some things. But yeah, Asia does seem to have better prices and over the years I've bought an iPhone in Dubai, Myanmar and Singapore which were all cheaper, although the AirPods Pro in Singapore were about the same. I think there are places way more expensive too so maybe we are midway compared to places like Brazil which is way off the scale.

Places like India, too, where it’s cheaper to buy an iPhone in Dubai (return flight included) than it is to buy it locally.

Apple Takes 62% of Premium Market in Q1 2022

Apple reached its highest first quarter share in the premium segment since Q1 2017

Interesting stuff, I've finally convinced my wife to join the dark side, so we will be getting her an iPhone 13 this week hopefully.

Seems like lack of USB-C and fAsT WiReLesS charging doesn't matter that much after all...

Have a really annoying bug that I can’t find a solution to, so may as well try here. Can only assume watching something on YouTube triggers it, but the only way I can get rid of it is by restarting the phone:

Note that nothing is actually playing when that’s on the Lock Screen.

That normally happens when you connect to a bluetooth device. The last played media will show on your lock screen once it connects to a bluetooth device like your car or headset etc.

Easiest way to kill it is to force close the last app that was playing media... YouTube, Safari, Chrome, Music etc.

Only devices connected would be my watch and car infotainment. But I don’t use either to play media from my phone, so it makes even less sense. And I’ve also tried force-closing everything - only way to get rid of is restarting.

Is it a recent occurrence. i.e a new bug? What iOS are you running?

I've only seen that where there's a webpage open in the background in Safari with an embedded video or sound clip.
