iPhone 3G/3GS Internet Tethering Activation

Hi

Internet Tethering: Apples way of saying internet sharing from your phone onto your PC/MAC.

By default this option is switched off on all phones worldwide. Reason is because some operators want to charge for this option. (Apparently...??)

Anyways to switch it on follow the following instructions:

Browse to the following site on your iPhone using Safari:
http://www.iphone-notes.de/mobileconfig/

Select Vodacom as the carrier. Last one on the list.

Hit the download button and then the Internet Tethering option will be available in the
Settings -> General -> Network sections.

The rest is pretty self explanatory.

PS: You need Itunes on a PC to make this work.
 
Why do people still insist on using a cellphone as a modem (tethering) and the complain of slow speeds , dropped calls , no incoming comms like sms and so on.

Bring on the fault USB drivers , crap bluetooth connectivity , the few that insist on using IR - infra-red and so on.

If you want connectivity then get a modem suited to that purpose , do not for all intents and purposes use a primarily marketed voice device to do the same.

I suppose its only natural to want an all-in-one , the problem then comes on howto support it amongst other ...

Huh?? I have been using my nokia 6110 navigator as a modem for 2 years now without any major problems. I have a k3715 usb modem and it is no more reliable than my phone/bluetooth combo. I use one now simply because I have a seperate contract for data.

Dedicated usb modems have their own problems. I had to spend 3 days to get my older e220 modem to work with either Vista or Win7.

Tethering is pretty usefull IMHO.

Using your phone for as a modem to access the internet when your ADSL line is down or worse yet you've run out of cap and need to buy more??? IMO its priceless!! You should always have a backup internet connection.

Thats to email the config file to your email address and then you can download onto your iphone. Using the method above, you can download the config file directly from the website.
 
Tethering is my main means of connection these days.
Prefer it and MTN not disconnecting anymore after 10MB, so I'm really flying!
