Apple Inc released a software update for their iPhone 3G after receiving complaints from the mobile service provider T-Mobile about connection problems.
T-Mobile reported that they had received complaints in the Netherlands and Apple had subsequently issued a software update. It is unclear at this stage if the update will fix the problem.
Media reports have fingered faulty software on an Infineon Technologies AG chip as the reason for the problems. Reuters reported that Infineon declined to comment about iPhone but said its chips work on 3G phones from suppliers such as Samsung Electronics Co without problems.
A big draw card for the new iPhone is that it has 3G, the previous iPhone only had GPRS/EDGE, but according to Reuters users have complained about dropped calls and inconsistent Internet speeds with the new device
South Africa is still awaiting the release of the iPhone but hopefully by the time this device is available on the local market these glitches will have been ironed out.
