iPhone 3GS from USA at Customs...

please ensure that you dont even make 1 scratch on the iphone otherwise your entire warranty will be void.

please take care of the iphone... no scratches nothing ziltch .. or no warranty if you do have any scratch
 
This whole customs thing is a thumbsuck I tell you. Little bit more than 2 months ago, I bought a lightsaber from thinkgeek, when the thing arrived I had to pay vat and duties. Buddy of mine, bought 2 lightsabers (the darth maul set), about a month later, he did not pay a cent.

So I think it depends on the day your stuff arrives, if its a friday, it'll be free, cause they want to go home and party, if its a monday you'll pay through the nose, cause the left home early on a friday and partied the whole weekend

Dude, your reputation for senseless rants preceeds you. I am not in the least bit interested in getting into a debate with you about this. My comment was addresses to the OP. Its his/her descision at the end of the day.

Point is, whenver anybody bypasses taxes (no matter what the reason) that loss of income has to be recovered from other sources, i.e. every other tax payer in the country.
 
UPDATE:

OK, I just called EMS Customs and the iPhone was cleared through customs about 30min ago. Total Payment due: R 207.49, LOL!!! I paid +- R5500.00 for the iPhone 3GS 16GB, so if you go and calculate it, I barely paid 3% on fees :)

Wow... what a bargain :) If anyone wants the details of the ebay seller please PM me. He accepts unconfirmed PayPal accounts and he also ships to South Africa. I'll make the phone in my hand tomorrow morning :)
 
Yes, the seller declared it as a Gift... not sure if he indicated the total value of the item on the declaration form, will only be able to see that when the phone arrives tomorrow.

I just received my iPhone 3GS 16GB. It was delivered about 10min ago. Everything works, I just popped in my SIM and it connected to vodacom network. Factory Unlocked. AWESOME!!

The Item was marked as a Gift and declared as $150, so thats why I only paid R207 at customs... :) The description on the custom declaration was "iPhone 3GS 16GB phone" So I guess they didn't bother asking for an invoice :)
