In all fairness, the jailbreak process with these new bootloaders is still very vague for new iPhone buyers! It confuses me sometimes even!

The whole tethered jailbreak process is very vague, especially when it comes to unlocking as well ... not too much solid info out there on the web any more like there used to be!

I got the iPhone 3GS on Friday morning. As far as I know the guy who had it before me had it Jailbreaked but the he restored it to v3.1.3.

So my iPhone is open to all networks. So I guess that means that its not locked.

So I guess I will have to wait till the new Jailbreak comes out for v3.1.3.

Does it usually take long for the new versions to come out?

A new 3.1.3 Jailbreak has been released by GeoHot for the 3GS, but it still doesn't work on the new baseband. (Source)

Recently Blacksn0w RC2 said to be working and now available to unlock their iPhones which running Iphone OS 3.1.3. But be aware that however Blacksn0w is working for 3.1.3 remember that this Jailbreak for Iphone Solution is not capable of working on with the new baseband 05.12.07.

So if you’ve upgraded your iPhone Firmare to 3.1.3 with the use of Apple’s official firmware then your out of luck.

Check your serial number... if the 4&5 digit make a number below (AFAIK) 40 then you are good to go!
