iPhone 4 - any expected SA launch date?

Yep, September. Judging from the pay in on a 3GS the 4G will probably cost the same as a entry level Macbook.

I've always had pleasure in ripping off people that bought iPhone ... But as new iPhones comes out, I'm having trouble finding fault!

These new babies have EDGE/3G, SMS/MMS, copy/paste and can even run multi apps :/

This iPhone 4 looks like *the* phone and it appears my iPhone slating days are over

but why do vodacome charge so much for it?its totally ridiculous. if it were free on a 24month contract it would sell much better

I've gotta admit, the multitasking means I can't laugh at the iPhones so much any more. I still think they're a rip-off though.
I so want a nice Android phone with a slide-out keyboard, like the Motorola Milestone. Getting tired of the Noka 5800 but the free GPS navigation is a major plus...

IT will be here in AUGUST
only with vodacom

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I think Vodacom's exclusivity deal with Apple for the iPhone is done. It was a 2 year deal as far as I know which means that we can start to look forward to more people distributing the iPhone. I think it's about time because all the issues with stock availability and repairs to the iPhone handsets have been caused by Vodacom. If you ask me, NO single operator should have exclusivity on such a handset. It causes way too many problems for the end-consumer and basically bullies the buyer into paying what the operator wants to ask.

Why does the iPhone cost 10 times more in South Africa than what it does in the States or in Europe? Simple answer: Because of Vodascum's monopoly on the handset.

Well sorry for you, but the exclusivity arrangement is OVER dude.

The iPhone4 only has limited multitasking, it will be interesting to see how much it can actually do. Although not having to reload an app every time you want to open it is already a huge improvement.

And android > 1.6 comes with free gps navigation, just google brut.all navigation hack ;)

Well I meant legal free navigation, otherwise you can say they all have everything for free :p
Although since there is no paid version of the Google app it isn't quite the same, but you still have the problem of no official support and Google might do something to stop it at some point.
And even if Google makes their navigation free here, it still doesn't work in offline mode as far as I know.

Ovi Maps on my Nokia 5800 has been good in my experience, with the major exception being the utterly horrible search feature.

I see theres a new free GPS navigation program for the iPhone:

It's pretty much exactly the same as the Android multitasking.

It's not illegal as such - more of a grey import than stolen property. The official one will come out soon enough - we've just gotten streetview, it's just a case of getting the local pronounciation correct. The hack is still good enough to get you from A to B, especially if you only need turn by turn every other month and cant really justify spending up to a grand on GPS software.
