I have an iPhone 4 (local one) - got it through Vodacom in September 2010. I updated to iOS 5 a few weeks ago and it was working and then on Friday, it said it could not make or receive calls and I must restore from iTunes. I turned it off and back on and it was working perfectly, it then did the same thing later on. I eventually ran a restore on Friday evening and once it had done everything, iTunes said there was no SIM card in the phone, which there was, and it works perfectly in my iPad. I have subsequently tried to restore it several times, each time with no luck. It will not activate via WiFi or iTunes and now I have a brick.

Anyone else seen this before and if so, is it fixable?

Thanks

You have to take this in for repair... Sounds like something is faulty with your SIM tray / connections, ...

Have you tried another SIM?

If that does not work then off to Vodacare for you. Make sure you check your moisture sensors *before* you book it in and have them note on the order that the sensors are clear (assuming they are).

September 2010.

You're out of warranty so you'd better have insurance.

My 3GS started having reception problems (No Service & synch with iTunes screen a few times a day) after I upgraded to 4.3.3, stock iTunes upgrade .. nothing else.
Unfortunately that happend when I was 3 weeks out of warranty and both Vodacom & Apple flatly refused to help.

My household (3 phones) are proudly android now and loving every minute of it.

Don't bother trying to keep reloading software. Vodacom will swop it out for u with either a new or refurbed one.

Unlikely to be a new one considering they've discontinued sales of the iPhone 4. The last few floating around seemed to have been snapped up weeks ago.

I had the same problem on my 3GS. The only thing that worked for me was to jailbreak using red snow and then install ultrasn0w from cydia. Once ultrasn0w was installed my phone found the vodacom network straight away.
