hi

anyone insure there iphone? at what cost?
also anyone added it to household insurance? what did ur premium go up?

Thanks for reminding me, I should do this. I'll phone my insurance now and let you know what it costs.

APPLE iPHONE 4 insured for R 10,000.00 at R 135.20 (added to my car/household, but all risk)
My 2G was insured for R6500 @R92pm

This is at Santam, but I am sure most insurers will be close to these amounts.

im trying to find a competitive price --- coz yellow company wants to charge me R160 a month - i think that abit much

Was going to as the same. Not being funny, but that is almost too cheap to trust. Is it insured under all risk items? In other words, no matter what happens to it, you will be covered? You usually pay for that 'benefit'

My 3G is free now. I only insure until I'm due for an upgrade. :)

*It was insured with SANTAM for R8500 @ R110/month.

It's with Woolworths insurance through Auto and General. I just phoned again to check that it's under all risks and the answer is yes. I actually thought it was a bit expensive because my iPod touch only cost R802 pm and that's insured for R4k so I'm actually paying more for the added "cell phone risk".

It may be because the Excess is R750 or because I am a good customer that doesn't claim much and I have my house and car insured there too.

iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 @ R43.71 per month for both @ R750.00 excess through Auto and General. This is with a 40% staff discount though....

also how does this insurance work? is it fixed term for the length of your cellphone contract or is in indefinite until you write off your cellphone>

It works in conjuction with your normal car / houser policy.

As a specified item it is covered under all risks (theft, loss, fire etc) you pay a specific premium for the item and if anything happens to the phone you simply claim for a new one :) Excesses can range from R300 - R750

I am a bit of a loskop so i do tend to loose phones a bit and as such this insurance has proved invaluable, in the last 2 years alone my HTC Touch Diamond was stolen and i lost my iPhone 3G. Both of these were replaced within a week and both time it only cost me a R500 for the first claim and R750 for the second.

I imagine if i claim again soon though that the excess will increase due to claim frequency...

But still better than forking out another R8 000 for a phone...

It will be insured until you tell them not to insure it. The lady at WW insurance also told me to revise the value every six months.

how dose claimin work though --- its easy enough to tell ur insurance the phones stollen but u still have it in ur pocket - do u have to first get proof that its blacklisted, stopped etc??

You need to got the the nearest police station and submit a police report so that you can get a case number, secondly you need to get a blacklist confirmation from your service provider and only then they will process your claim....
