iPhone 4 prices

I don't know them, that seems like an alrightish deal. My advice is look in Gumtree and Junkmail. You can get a new or practically new iPhone 4 for under R4000.

Not a bad price but my advice would be wait for the 4s, you should be able to get it for R1500-R2000 more from the official SA distributor {I guess having no evidence to back this up}, the current prices for the 4s are from importers who are charging a massive premium, the 4s is a vast improvment over the 4, will have higher resell value and should last all the way to IOS 7.

I did have a look at gumtree and there are some tempting prices for second hand, but I'm thinking about it as a Christmas present for my wife and would like to get it new. She's holding onto her 3G like grim death, but now the battery doesn't get her through her day I thought I'd surprise her with a new one. She seriously dislikes technology and uses her phone as, believe it or not, a phone :wtf: :D

Okay, maybe a bit harsh, she surfs a bit and reads the news in bed at night or on a Sunday morning, plays the odd game like bejewelled once a month and uses maps a bit. But other than that it's the familiarity of iOS it will give that is appealing and the lower price of the 4 seems like a good idea just now.

She'll NEVER know any difference between the 4 and 4S in a million years, but I think as you say Matty, it might be an idea to wait a couple of weeks, get a bit closer to Christmas and see what happens when the 4S comes out.

I agree, its best to wait for the 4S, that way you have a choice either buy the 4S or buy the iPhone 4 (for a much cheaper -- I'm sure there will be a few people wanting to sell theirs)

I'm considering this deal from excellular.co.za for a black 16gb iPhone 4.

R5,799 + R150 for delivery.

http://excellular.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=134

The payment is EFT only which worries me a bit. So has anyone bought from them before or indeed seen a better deal somewhere else?

Cheers.

Hi Spizz, Apple iPhone 4S is apparently getting its official South African debut on 16th December - it'd be a tad bit pointless getting the iPhone 4 now - only two weeks on a much more interesting product.

Yep iPhone 4S is a a big improvement - I suppose buying a 4 right now would really sort of create buyer's remorse after one witnesses first-hand the advancements on the 4S. I'd like to correct you though, regarding the pricing of the 4S from importers. As a co-owner of exCellular.co.za - I'll tell you we are not charging a premium on the 4S, the costing is crazy and there's little profit to be made on newly-released Apple products as always. I suppose you may be correct though that the direct importers may be charging a premium, but it's difficult to tell because if you look at 4S prices on eBay and places like that, it's hard to tell what's going on - prices are mostly quite high. But ya like I said, it's always the same with new Apple products.

Sorry I stand corrected, as I am sure you know we only had the US prices to compare to but it is good to know about the price range we can expect for the 4s, thanks for pointing this out, my advice is still wait for the 4s if the iphone 5 is already in production {and the rumour mill seems to be suggesting it is (not that I am inclined to believe apple rumours anymore)}, it's possible it will release with IOS 6 which should be the last update {I assume} for the iphone 4 so considering that and the higher resell value of the iphone 4s even if it's just a gift for the wife it's probably worth the extra cost.
