iPhone 4s NON-contract prices?

Has anyone been able to find out the going prices for a 4S in SA without selling one's soul to the cellcos once again? The usual grey importers have been charging their usual exorbitant rates, but it should be possible to go into an Apple dealer and walk out with a phone, right? No contract, just the hardware, and I'll organise the micro-SIM myself.

Tried several places last Friday including all the shops in Vodaworld, iStore included.

Not one would sell me one even thought they all had stock.

We even tried MTN - same story

According to Vodacom's website they sell the 16Gig for R7399, but do they have it in stock. I doubt it.
