Iphone 4s screen goes black

Hi guys, so i just got my 4s from VC direct. i have experienced to instances where the screen goes black.
Please can anyone advice. Maybe i should take it back. And probably wait weeks for a replacement . Thanks

Don't know, just got a scare. I pressed the home and on\off button for a few seconds and it came back. Just scared that there might be something wrong

Would help if you explain when it goes black.... as its a normal function of modern phones to go black if you dont do anything on it.

The first time I was busy typing a sms, then blank. and the second time I was ending a call. And while this is happening, I can still hear the sounds, but just wont wake up. only comes back when I reset it.

If you have your 4S in a cover that's not designed for that phone, you might be covering one of the sensors. Take it out of its cover and see if it still happens.

It's not in a cover. I'll give it a few days, if it still continues, I'm taking it back
