iPhone 5 from US - which model?

Have a friend flying from the US next week and want to know which iPhone 5 model I should get in order to have it work properly here in SA? They sell for R5600 and I really don't want to pay R8600 for the 16GB model here in SA. Don't want to get it on contract.

Would appreciate any help.
