Well, it's official, Apple announces iPhone 5 launch event on the 12 September.

Apple has just invited members of the press to attend a San Francisco-based product launch event on September 12th, where the next generation iPhone is expected to be officially unveiled. As rumored, it seems as if the company's prior iPod-focused fall events may be split off into two. It's been reported that an October event may follow this one, with a miniaturized 7-inch iPad on the docket for that. This event, however, seems a lock for the iPhone 5 -- or "new iPhone," or whatever it ends up being coined -- and while CEO Tim Cook confessed at D10 that it would be doubling down on secrecy, leakers seem to have doubled down on tipping the world off on what's to come. The keynote kicks off at 10AM PT in SF, and you can bet we'll be there covering every second of it live.

I see they are having an official product launch. Don't see anything about it saying the iPhone 5 release is official.

Yeah, based on the leaks so far the iphone 5 seems a tad bland. I think what has basically happened is Apple have painted themselves into a corner doing the pixel doubling on the current iphone 4 and 4s, which means they cant up the screen size without lowering pixel density - unless of course they go with the elongated design they are rumoured to be going with. For most people this will be fine, and tbh a 4 inch device with LTE and an A6 processor will be fantastic for peeps who requires potability, simplicity, and power, but for us geeks who want 4.5 inch uber phones the iphone 5 will be a bit limp.

What Apple needs to do at some point is bring out a range of screen sizes, but i doubt we will be seeing that in the next 2 years - but it'll eventually come.

Look at the shadow, its a pretty solid hint.

Well spotted, I must be tired, only saw the 5 when I went back and looked again.

I haven't bought at launch before but having the cash burning away in my pocket from the sale of my SGS3, I just might this time around.

Huh, sold a S3 to buy a Iphone?

Yep, its not worth the money.

Got the S3 as an upgrade, but it isn't a huge improvement on the S2, if anything, in my experience text input on the S3 is worse than on my S2 (or my Nexus 7).

I skipped the 4s, so will keep the cash from the S3 to buy the iP5. IMO, none of the Androids match iOS for text input (or copy/ paste function). I can type faster and more accurately on my iPhone 4 than even on my Nexus 7.

Oooooh, them's fightin' words, Dave123. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of fandroids boasting of their wpm ...

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the best of all Smartphones at the moment in my opinion. I wonder if Apple can top Samsung S3?

They better not have a killer feature, I'm planning on not upgrading from my iPhone 4 ...

LOL

Probably, it doesn't change the fact that text input and cut and paste on android is enough to give a saint high blood pressure ;)

They should bite the bullet and licence the iOS system for cut and paste.

35 minutes to go. Quite excited to see this.

For the first time, me too. I haven't bothered to follow any of the previous events live, but after all the android disappointments I've had this year I'm looking forward to the iP5.
