iPhone 5 not registering for iMessage on 8ta

A friend of mine recently switched to 8ta and she is battling as her iMessage is not activating.

It hangs at waiting for activation. Same with FaceTime. Does not activate.

Is this an 8ta network issue?

I seem to recall having similar problems and dialling a code seemed to resolve the issue. Iirc it was **5005*7672*+2781191#

Just try to activate again. Got a chick at work to try again and voila. She on Vodacom though.

Hi - eventually tried the code and it says invalid code.

Can you please double check the code and let me know again please?

Code is for SMS messages. iMessage should activate if u both have data coverage. Messages will turn from green to blue.

Thanks - not getting any joy anywhere. Not at Telkom/8ta store nor at iStore. Both call centres clueless as to why its happening too...?

Any Telkom reps on the forum know if this is a new / known issue?

I did get my imessage actived without any problems on cellc..... I did however noticed it did send a international sms..... Maybe that is the problem with 8ta? maybe the sms is not going through on 8ta?

Code is for SMS messages. iMessage should activate if u both have data coverage. Messages will turn from green to blue.

When I set it up I got a message saying "Your carrier may charge for SMS messages used to activate iMessage".

Think you might be right... See on their website sms'se to certain UK operators won't return an sms back...

Why would they be selling an iPhone 5 but iMessage and FaceTime on the cellnumber won't work.

Don't know how you can sell something that does not work the way it should...?

I'm on 8ta the missus is on Cell C - last time I activated was last week when I installed the iOS 7 beta.

That is very very annoying - when did you first register for iMessage on 8.ta?

I suspect its a recent issue and appears not to have affected people who registered a while ago?

I have the exact same problem. I ported from MTN, where my old iPhone 4 worked well pretty well using iMessage, having the iPhone 5 on the Telkom Mobile network, it simply does not want to work. Can someone please advise what might the problem be???

Are you receiving iMessages via your Telkom mobile/ 8ta number or your Apple ID/ email?
