My iPhone 5 is only about 2 months old and already the power button is giving me trouble. It only works when I press the button on the left side but not when I press on the right side, which would be natural holding it in the right hand pressing the button with the right index finger. Trusting other sources, Apple is apparently aware of this problem.

I have purchased the phone on Vodacom contract but I already know what they will tell me when I call them, I have to send it in. I'm getting quite tired of this, overseas people get their phones replaced of they have such issues. Is there anything else I can do except for sending it in through Vodacom?

My iPhone 4 had the same problem, both home and power button failed to work after about a year.

Im pretty sure due the consumer protection act vodacom no longer have the right to either give you your phone repaired or a refurbed one. You are allowed to ask for a replacement and they have no choice to give it to you.

Send it in- they would replace it.

My iPhone 5 screen was erratic just after 20days of delivery.. Sent it in and in a week got a new one.

Fortunately for you, vodacom does not repair iPhones. They'll send it to Apple who will in turn send you another phone.

I sent my phone in and received a new scratch free phone. One more advantage of going Apple.

Since my phone got stolen yesterday I don't have to worry about the button anymore.

;(

galaxy is epic in 3rd world countries much like bb was. it appeals to the sort of consumer that buys a korean car.

I am surprised that people still have this attitude go and find that koreans make the same quality and its less expensive don't fool yourself thinking that those German cars costing you more because its of higher quality.

Hi guys,

I got my iPhone 5 in January so it is still under warranty. I took out a contract with cell c.

Yesterday my power button started giving the issues described by the OP. I am going to have to give it to Cell C, which will leave me without a phone for some time I would imagine.

So question - does anyone know of a company that rents out phones? I am thinking if it does get replaced, I could just sell it and keep the money for the 5S. Even if it doesn't get replaced, I am still going to need a replacement phone in the interim.

Exact same boat as you, CellC, iphone 5, power button issue.
Now the problem comes in, they take it in, and you sit with you Nano sim, so now you have to do a sim swop to a micro/normal sim which will cost R200, and when you get the phone back, you have to do another simswop back to Nano, which will again cost R200.
I love my iphone, but this is absolute BS.
The amount of people i have pocket dialed because of this issue......, and the problem gets worse, im at a point where i have to press the left side of the button as hard as i can, +- 20 times before it might work.

Never had any issues with the power button on any of the iPhone including the 5 (lol: guess you must be holding ... Err pressing it wrong :D)

Anyway this should definitely be covered by the warranty.

My wife is having the same issue with her iPhone 5. I am with MTN. Did you get your device fixed? replaced? given a refurbished unit?

Yeah, this has gotta be under warranty. I used to have issues with the home button on the iPhone 3GS... Darn, that was annoying. Problem was that I bought it in the UAE. Had to install a tweak that enabled swipe gestures to mimic the home button... Never had a issue with the buttons on the iPhone 4S. But still hate buttons.

Device is with Cell C at the moment. Will take up to a month to get it back (or replaced).

I have the same issue, but my phone is a year old...and used extensively. Irritating though.

Keep telling yourself that. ;)
