Nope I have a 5S no issues, what I did find in the beginning is that if LTE or 4G is not enabled on your contract the phone will try and connect all the time and drain the battery, my wife's Galaxy Note 2 would not connect at when in an LTE area at all untill they fixed it.

So my advice would be check with your SP that LTE is enabled.

If you change the phone to only connect on 3G is it any better ? Also are you in a 4G area ?

EDIT : Spent the Christmas at my folks on a farm they only have 3G (at times haha) and battery was still fine...

yep i found its better, just tested it last night though. did full factory restore on the phone to eliminate software issues, thought maybe it can be after i installed chrome but doesnt look like the case. the phone also gets quite hot sometimes which my 4 never did. im back from holidays and back at work which is in randburg, sure this area is covered with lte? had a look on vodacom's website (https://myvodacom.secure.vodacom.co.za/personal/main/coveragemaps) but no map?

quick update.. visited vodacare after work, they immediately booked in the phone, was using it before i saw the consultant and was able to show her how hot it gets. sent to higher level repairs. should get it back in 7-10 days.

From my experience with the two iPhone 5 I owned, LTE does drain the battery quicker but it didn't make a huge difference in my case - possibly as where I had perfect 4G signal, I struggled with 3G and it was constantly switching between 3G and EDGE which would waste battery... Both my phones did get quite hot with normal usage... Much hotter than my brothers iPhone 4 and compared to my Xperia Z as well... I don't think your phone has a problem
