when is iphone 6 anticipated to be released?
should one wait for it?
Or rather just get the iPhone 5s 16g?
If so, should one go for a 32 or 64 or 16gig phone?

Well it's been out in SA for 3 months now and 5 months from initial debut. It's relatively new in the SA market, so I would strongly consider it. If I had to choose, I prefer to be on the 'S' cycle, so your next contract would be up for renewal for the 6S if you choose the 5S now.

You also have to consider that the 6 will be vastly different from the 5S. Rumors are that it can debut anytime between June and September, but it will most likely be in the latter half. Add another 2 months to that time frame for it to arrive in SA and it could be here in November/December.

Also note that there may be 2 versions of it (possibly a phablet in addition), so you will have to consider that too. Expect larger screens too.

But it really depends on how badly you want the 5S. For me, I would not want any other phone except the 5S, if I had to choose right now. It's amazing and gorgeous!

You could always get both, which is what I'm planning to do. Run two contracts one year apart :)

With regards to size, 32 gb is always a safe bet. I have the 16 gb and its perfect for me. I dump all my pictures and videos in my Box account and it frees up enough space for me. I know that most people would struggle with 16 gb though. The price difference between the 16 and 32 gb is only R50 a month on MTN's contract anyway..

If listening to the rumors it sounds like the 6 will be quite a big change so I would wait.

That being said, if you will upgrade every 2 years then the s cycle as mentioned above is a good one to be on.

or you can look around and move away from the iOs ecosystem. it is actually quite terrible, you just don't see it due to the chip you got with the first idevice you got installed into your frontal lobe.

seriously do a spec review, look at the hardware, think for half a second and you will realise that LG, currently make 2 phones that are older and better in specs than the iphone, Samsung make 2 as well, and 1 is 6 months OLDER than the 5s.

and before you say "but build Quality...." pick up a HTC one, hold that solid aluminum body in your hands and argue build quality again.
"but the camera on the...." just no dude even nokia make better camera phones right now.

an iPhone is an over priced, over hyped revamp of 2008 tec that keeps selling because people don't do research.

"but 64 bit...."
before you start on that tell me what chipset your work laptop runs on, and what difference that has made in your life.

buying an iOS device now is the same as buying a blackberry was in 2011, not everyone can see the ship is sinking, but looking back 3 years later the turning point is obvious.

OK - let me see if I've got this - if I buy a Samsung/LG for the specs, and an HTC one for the build quality, and a Nokia for the camera I'll have something as good as an iPhone.

Not really a winning argument. :o

lol.

I'd get 5s. The 6 is a long time to wait.

My biggest issue with the iphones that they are engineered to last yet the iOS optimized for the latest chip. This statement in its self is ridiculous.

There's some truth in that. But do you expect the OS to continue pandering to ancient hardware indefinitely? There's a difference between optimisation and support. My iPhone4 owning grandfather doesn't expect to get transparencies and smooth fly animations in iOS7 but it's gratifying to know he's on the latest build and he's still getting the app updates he needs.

very thought provoking arguments.
however NOTHING will change my mind about iPhone.

Not for wanting to sound like a sheep,,but there is no contest for iPhone 5s..............IMHO!

I actually agree with you here. Don't get me wrong I do really like android phones and the way you can customise it in such a way its really good but there is just something about the iphone that ALWAYS wants me to just use it. If I use my Samsung Galaxy note 2 I think about my iphone. The iphone is just a amazing phone but yes the price is abviously quite steep.

Rumour is that the iPhone 6 will finally have a bigger display than 4''.

I seriously don't know how people can still call a phone with a small display a smartphone, unless they got a magnifying glass with their 4'' phone. :p

Just get the 5s. Recently came from an S4 and the difference in build quality is like day vs night. Some people like iOS, others don't. Only thing I miss about Android is that my keyboard could 'type' in Afrikaans.

Also, never 16 gig. It fills up to fast and for R50pm extra, you can get 32gig. I went 64, but I've got most of my music on mine as well now.

.

You can switch the auto correction off under the keyboard settings.

I am an Adroid fan all the way, but please dude. It is not a war. If the guy(or lady) loves his phones to come with a fruity logo, them (s)he should buy an Apple product. There may be disadvantages to iOS Apple ecosystem, but the same came can be said for Android, or Windows for that matter. People just weigh these advantages and disadvantages differently.
