Hi Guys,

I see vodacom has some really good deals on the iPhone 6. My contract is due for an upgrade and was wondering if the phone would last another 2 years. Would it still be able to handle updates, etc.?

Currently have a Huawei p8 which was launched around the same time as the iPhone. I don't want to get into the android vs iOS debate though. I've been an Android Fan boy all these years but wanted to try a change

So the question is, is it worth paying ~R300 a month for an iPhone 6 or double that for an iPhone 7?

The other alternatives are:
  • Huawei P10
  • Galaxy s7

iOS 11 supports the 5s so a 6 should get updates for a few years at least.

I'd like to minimize budget while still having the phone last the 2 years. Don't want to be stingy now and then have a brick

I’m pretty sure it would last just fine.

But I would wait at least until December or after the iPhone “8” has launched here as there will be even better deals then.

Updates aren’t a worry and even the battery would do a good 4 years before needing a cheap replacement.

****

My personal phone is still an iPhone 5S and operates quite happily being 4 years old and is running iOS 11 Beta.

Wait for the iPhone 8 then the iPhone 6 will be dirt cheap and probably worth the price by that time.

The iPhone 6 is already 3 years old... I'd look for something more recent.

Why though?

Im sure for day to day use, his i6 is fine, unless it has something wrong with it that is affecting productivity.

The issue is it seems they selling the 6 out at the moment. Only Vodacom is offering it.

Are they still being manufactured? Will it be around in December?

They're still selling the 5s.

I got a 6s on Friday from Telkom. The Touch ID makes it a worthy upgrade and the extra power makes it a year more future proof than the 6. Not to mention the 2gb ram opposed to the 1gb on the 6, and the 32gb minimum storage against 16. Pay a little extra for the 6s, it's well worth it.

If screen size isnt an issue. Rather get the iPhone SE. Much better specs and will last much longer.

Vodacom has the 6 32gb for R329/month. You can get the SE 32gb at the iStore for R326/month. You can also get the SE 16gb for R249/month at Vodacom but 16gb might not be enough for you.

It's the new 32GB version that Apple released this year, but it will still fall under the iPhone 6 range from 2014 in terms of updates.
